I have the solution to your stubborn rubber sole removing problem!!! You need a tire grooving iron! They are used in the repair of truck tires and the modification of tires for various types of racing. Such an iron would take that sole off in just a few minutes.

Gaerne sg12’s are the top of the line riding boots. $550 boot there. Very durable, protective and stylish at the same time. I race xc quads and let me tell you it’s not fun slipping off a peg and having your foot caught between your nerf bar and rear wheel. Your whole back of your leg gets skinned up pretty bad. That’s nothing for these boots. Plus the boots are so strong you don’t end up twisting your ankle either. Been there done that not fun. Kicking a bike over with them is night and day too.

Inexpensive or less expensive sounds better to me than “cheaper”. I really like this video mainly because I do have designer shoes but I also have other shoes that I love just as much and am so glad to see they can be repaired, because I get attached to them. I know, sounds crazy but I never bought a shoe I didn’t instantly fall in love with and can’t part with them just because they have a little age on them. Those Rockports you redid is my point. Sure, you could buy another pair but these become old friends.

I had a pair of boots that had closed-cell compressed foam soles (like your motor cross boots) resoled by the manufacturer who is local to my area. I got to see a bit of the work being done, and they used a hot knife (which is really a hot piano wire) to slice the bulk of the old sole off before taking it to the grinder to remove the left over. Don't know if you do enough of those type of soles to justify the cost; but you could probably try with a cheap soldering iron to see if it cuts it without making a mess.

How often do you get requests to copy "back door" keys? I mean, here in America, i don't see many of those keys used anymore. I worked in the hardware departments of both Sears and Walmart and I've never cut a key like that (and i don't think we have a machine that can). So is it quite common to copy them? I only know of them as skeleton keys.

So I don't know if this will be of any help but I'll share it anyways. Have you ever tried putting just a little water on you cutters when doing those motorcycle boots? I work in an open pit mine with huge equipment and I know that if we water the roads too much it just destroys the tires from rock cuts. Tested it one day on an old tire they had blocking a road. Got my pocket knife out when it was dry, couldn't cut into the tire at all. Put a little water on the knife and tire and whoa, talk about the hot knife through butter. Don't know if it will help but thought I'd share. Love the videos by the way, just subscribed!
@Dan_the_cobbler3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I have tried in the past with little success, I guess because the water gets flicked off the bands pretty immediately, and makes a big mess in the machine if I had say a running hose on it lol.
