Thanks for this knowledge sharing, please any idea an equipment/instrument to determine High temperature high shear viscosity?
@qaisibrahim5674 Жыл бұрын
hello, I noticed in oil recommendations in several brands that oil viscosity for the same engine QR25DE for the same car differs in Brazil (5w-30 and even 5w-40 as alternative) while in Nissan US/Canada it recommends 0w-20 viscosity only, is it because of the warmer climate or the engine itself has some differences ?
@ipanmie2 жыл бұрын
Hi sir, do we need to choose oil grade depending on what climate we live? For example, if the manual said to use 10w30, but we live in a hot climate can we change it to 10w40/10w50?
@user-lj6gk4lv9s Жыл бұрын
I'd go up one grade not 2, I'd be more likely to go up a grade if the engine was worn. A worn engine has bigger gaps and also when a plain bearing is worn, the actual load bearing area drops.

What is the difference between a 10W30 oil intended for a four cycle engine (such as a lawn mower) versus 10W30 oil intended for a passenger car?

thanks for this explain, multigrade was not popular in Asia, specially for Marine Diesel Engine, monograde SAE 40 are usually used....crew can't understand SAE 40 for Diesel engine or Marine Engine (high speed, medium speed, or slow speed). Need explain engine oil for Marine Lubricant
@LubricationExplained3 жыл бұрын
Marine is a really interesting application - I'll have to start doing a few videos.

Nice explanation buddy. Please make video on HTHS viscosity also.

Will do! There's lots of topics to cover but HTHS is definitely on the list.

~ 'The VI lose their capacity to hold viscosity temporarily in high shear,' more q than answers, I assumed the numbers meant how long it took for a ball bearing to fall thru' a column of oil?

Dear Mr. LE Please allow me to ask you a stupid question, Is mixing 1 quartz of engine oil SAE 5w30 and 1 quartz of SAE 5w20 will equals to SAE 5w25 Thank you in advance
@LubricationExplained2 жыл бұрын
Hi! Approximately yes? But the challenge is that different oils use different methods to achieve their multigrade viscosity - some will simply use a high VI base oil, others will lean more on viscosity modifiers.

Excellent idea! Will start putting one together.

Why does hot country have winter grade lube oils?
@chippyjohn12 жыл бұрын
I never understood why engines do not have a pre-lubrication system, for small engines. Large engines do, but cars planes and even most trucks do not. Seems like a logical design option for me.
@LubricationExplained2 жыл бұрын
I guess it just adds more complexity. If you look at turbine jacking oil systems for example, they need an entirely separate power supply because the main lube oil pumps are driven by the engine.

Engine is more likely to be destroyed by neglect than cold startups, you have your zinc additives for dry starts.

I use mono grade SAE 30 in Florida for over 10 years. My engines run like new even after 200,000 miles. Viscosity Improvers/modifiers are not lubricants.
