Despite the lack of sound, i can still hear those F5000 monsters trundling around, although they were low tech compared to a F1 car they could on the odd occasion hold their own against a formula one car. my first experience of Silverstone was the daily express gkn international trophy race in May 1971, ten shillings and sixpence to get in lol, it was a two part race held for F1 and F5000, Graham Hill won in the Brabham BT34 Lobsterclaw. i think the F5000 race featured in the film is 1970 though. i also spotted the monstrous Wiggins Teape Camaro raced by Brian "YOGI" Muir in 1971, i also saw that at Silverstone in 1971. Brilliant piece of nostalgia, thank you for posting.

Absolutely fantastic - thank you so much for this. I was at CP North Tower and can remember Rindt walking back to the pits

Wonderful ... I think the filming equipment and quality really brings out the lines and pace of the Formula cars (for lack of the more soulful expression I was fishing at) .. looking at it now feels almost like all of it was just dreamed up . Many thanks from Munich :)

This is a marvellous compilation Brian - thanks for sharing it. I think the Formula 5000 is 1970, the September 27th meeting, with Frank Gardner and Mike Walker leading the field at the rolling start shot at Clearways. That's Mike chatting to Howden Ganley in your paddock footage. The family outing, filmed by your father, is 1960 I believe, the Silver City Trophy at Brands, Jack Brabham leading the big race, Jim Clark the Formula Juniors. This meeting was the first on the extended Grand Prix circuit. Which of the lads is nine or ten year old Brian?!

Thanks for your comments. At 15:20 I am the boy closest to the camera with the red collar. Only the second motor racing event I had ever attended, the first being at Crystal Palace in 1955 when I was just 5 years old but can still clearly remember cars sliding round the corner at North Tower with tails hanging out. That started a love for motor racing which still has me glued to every Grand Prix on Sky F1!!!!
