I love the 4 pots. Got an FZ6, ZZR600 and a ZX6 and love them all - but them I'm an ancient old git of 72 who never grew up. I'm supposed to aspire to an 'adventure' bike or one of those American agricultural , massively heavy over-chromed things. But I don't like bikes that need a step ladder to mount or ones that weigh as much as a planet. Fortunately there are still loads of old 600s around and they're cheap as chips because the kids sold them for their 'adventure' look bike or the 'retro look' bikes. Suckers... Don't fall for the marketing bullshit.

Not quite 72 but in my 50s I ride a CBR1100XX Super Blackbird and I ride the mountains in Wales lots and at all the bike stop there are always guys in their 70s and now and again I get chatting to guys in the early 80s still riding big powerful bikes in the mountains.......never too old.
@joebloggs13174 күн бұрын
Old rider on a ZZR1100D, love to get over to Wales for long weekend blasts, see very few actual sports bikes over there, more adventure style bikes. And this is probably where the market for new bikes has gone. I still prefer the style of the 80/90's bikes, so will hopefully still be on them until I can't ride any longer. As for torque vs BHP, torque wins every time, you may enjoy screaming your R6 up and down the gearbox but if you ever get a bike that pulls just as hard from low rev's I promise you won't want to go back. I change up at 6K and leave most other vehicles on the road with little effort. Exiting bends is effortless, brake, hit the apex, hard on the gas and let that torque fire you out of the turn. Someone suggested buying heated handle bar grips but if you can put up with the styling, handle bar muffs are the business, sure they look crap, but you can ride in summer gloves all year round. Once, as an experiment, I removed one glove in mid-winter and rode for about 10 miles on a freezing cold morning and my hand was as warm as it was in the glove I took off. As for the large capacity superbikes, unless we get more younger riders coming through, there will be very few buyers, many of us old gits either are to arthritic to ride them, or will be soon. Enjoy your R6 bud, but please keep a little further behind cars unless you are planning to overtake.

I've been riding since I was 7 and I'm now 40. I passed when it was one test or direct access. I passed at 17 and had to wait 2 years before I could ride what I wanted, while racing a 750 at weekends just made little sense to me. It is stupid expensive to get started on bikes now, if you ride in winter, get heated gloves. Best purchase you'll ever make! I'm pleased there are a few new developments such as automatic options, what I am annoyed about though is the constant push for tech. I do not need a keyless key, or a fancy tft. It looks nice but is expensive to fix when compared to an old fashioned tacho.

You adjust the air to fuel ratio between 1k/ idle and 3.5 k. If you have an aftermarket air filter or exhaust, you change the settings depending upon the modifications you make. Ignition on ,killswitch off and if you hold the reset and trip button you go into diagnostic mode and Co adjustment for cylinder 1&4 and 2&3. Just remember to have 1+ above for cylinder 2&3 because they don't get the same air flow as 1&4 so you add 1+ to have more petrol to help cooling.
I got three bikes and there all straight fours and I won't buy anything with less than four cylinders

Hey Sir, I too don't understand Yamaha's crazy decision to not sell any R1s and R6s for the road. It's a crazy decision to do this and expect the R9 to be the replacement. I could see the R9 being a good R6 replacement but no way would it even touch the sides compared to a R1. I do look forward to seeing it in BSB and WSBK Super sports cat tho. My last bike was a 2008 R6, blue with factory Gold wheels and gotta say that cosmetically it is very relevant in 2024, aging better than a very expensive wine, still awesome bike. I cannot believe you didn't get a close up view of the Aprilias because of the crowds. Aprilia have a really awesome lineup for 2025, their bikes tick all the boxes in all the Cats for me, I do think they are missing a Motocross Cat tho. I'm a proud owner of a 2017 Aprilia RSV4-RF Superpole which see 90% track and 10% road so I am praising the Aprilia camp.
@NathRides4 күн бұрын
Hey! I can't believe it also, I was hoping maybe they'd replace the R1 with an R12 or something 😂 it's a shame I missed aprilia as they seem to be the only brand making CCs across the board still. They've got loads of options for every licence. The R6 still holds up in 2024 in looks, I think 2007-2015 gens look better than the newest gen of R6. What made you go for the Aprilia RSV4RF
@verdeboyo4 күн бұрын
@@NathRides You and I think alike on the 2007-15 R6 (13S model) and they still hold a good used price. Long story really, but the short of it is, I struggled to get insurance on a big litre bike after having my 2004 R1 stolen, so I bought myself a nearly new 2006 ZX6R for work, then our offices moved to Croydon, my home, so I got rid of the awesome bike, then decided I was missing bikes after 6 months, so bought the R6. Then in 2017 I did my first trackday on the R6, it was bloody good on track and as you do with track days, I got hooked on like on crack. So in 2020 Covid times, I thought I'd try something Italian. I always loved the RSV4 looks cos the tail is so tiny it looks like a Moto2 bike. So bought a low miles RSV4 Factory APRC. Completed CalSuperbike School 1,2 and 3 and just hit the track with it. October last year I stepped it up to the RF, which is a real gamechanger with the addition of auto-blipper and even better brakes, upgraded Ohlins TTX and performance is crazy. It gets lots of track time as the King's highway is riddled with pot holes and 20mph sections. Makes me feel like I'm Max Biaggi! 🤣That was the short version!🤣👍🏻

You keep your inline 4 with it's clutch cable. I'll keep my inline 6 with hydraulic clutch spitting 160 ponies out the back. I did Direct Access yonks ago, and last year bought a brand new BMW K1600 GTL... which BMW themselves promptly refused to insure me on (because it was "too new" - damn right it is, YOU just sold it to me and haven't built it yet!)... I believe 1st year insurance on that was £1100 or so, and I'm double your age. This year it's less than half. If you want to stick to Yamaha and want supersport inline 4, R1 RACE or R1 GYTR - if the bank balance is compatible. The bikes are available, no-one promised they'd be cheap.

@NathRides I wouldn't be interested in an R1 these days to be fair. The ST1300A2 is £78 to insure, 22years old, 120bhp when new and plenty of luggage space. The K1600 is as near to superbike territory as anyone would care for owning on a public road, complete with quick shifter and heated seat for the wife. The single cylinder gasgas is for getting my kicks around the farm 👍

I wouldn't just say its the factor of emissions being forced upon manufacturers. Biking as a whole seems to be in decline. In my view the standard of the roads is now shocking compared to what it was 20 years ago. Classic example in any video you post. They aren't up to any kind of standard. I've nearly had several offs on a single day out due to just how poor they are and it always leaves me just scaling down the riding time since it's just often more dangerous than it is fun

I don't get it. You are on 18 year old bike man, so much tech came into play. Smooth quickshifters, wheelie control, cornering ABS, traction control, cruise control etc. Also, have you tried other bike types other than hypersports? Naked is a hoot to ride. I honestly have no idea why people are suffering sports bikes on public roads. Track, sure, other than that get something fun. Even MT-07 would be a blast in comparison. Besides new ones have all sweet stuff in them. Honda is releasing Hornet 1000 next year, another great bike. Sure new emission limits are annoying but beats stuttering R6 in cold weather 😅
