Adventure motorcycle camping along the ORBDR. As a senior rider I am savoring my ability to get out and enjoy riding and camping and express my thoughts about this treasure. A beautiful and challenging ride from camp, views of snow covered Mt Hood, a lost tent and a mechanical issue.

Your words inspire me in this video. I’m 56 and still riding and flying. I noticed my check engine light is coming on more and more as I get closer to 60. I usually eat healthy and go to the Gym 3 to 4 days a week lifting weights with my trainer followed by 30 min of cardio. I’d be dead by now if I hadn’t started doing this. I just bought my first HD and I love it. My Best friend from High School just bought a Pan America. I’ll never do the kind of riding you do because it’s just too stressful for me at my age but I do see myself buying a Pan America and riding off road and camping outdoors. I love your videos! Thank you for posting them.

Ride YOUR ride is a oft quoted ADV moto saying and it fits. My rides in the future are going to be different than in the past and all that is OK BTW, retired airline pilot with A&P and lots of corporate and 135 flying which I no longer do. Sub'd to you.

Oh wow! I got my A&P too but rarely use it. I’m not good enough to get hired on with the airlines. 12,000 hours no accidents incidents or violation, never been arrested no DUI’s and well over 6,500 hours flying the Mitsubishi MU2. I currently manage and fly a Citation Bravo. Got turned down by SWA about 4 months ago. Oh well that’s the way the Mop Flops! You turn out some amazing videos! I’ve been sharing them with my friends. Outstanding content, sir. What amazing beauty to immerse yourself in. I think it was the Buddha that teaches to let go of our past, let go of the future, and live in the eternal now. I find that the focus of riding a motorcycle, combined with the essential nature of the wilderness make doing that easier than any prolonged ascetic mystical practice.

Exactly how I want to ride, all my friends just want to speed through the whole way and never want to enjoy a view, it's always about distance and speed. I guess I have to go by myself. Last ride we went on we went 200 miles and stopped to take a picture then never stopped 'til 4 in the afternoon and they wonder why I don't want to go.

I’m on an Aprilia Tuareg down in New Zealand and enjoy moto camping too (I’m 54 and if I’m half as adventurous as you at 72 I’ll be happy). I think I prefer solo riding to group rides. I am enjoying your videos. I also am 72. I think you are missing just one thing, but that is my personal opinion; a trained dog. My trained Australian Shepherd is a joy to travel with and to take care of. I ride a 2018 Honda GoldWing Touring DCT. She rides along in the TSC sidecar. To me, a trained dog is essential, and they don’t come out of a box on Christmas morning that way. It takes time, but it’s bonding time. We are leaving on a 4,000 mile road trip next month at a leisurely pace. I wouldn’t want to go without my dog. She wears military canine hearing protection, goggles, and we are awaiting her Flying Ace neck scarf from Lithuania. I tether her fore and aft. My helmet is a vintage Vietnam helicopter pilot helmet. I had it refurbished and updated by the pros who do the USAF & USCG helmets. Coolest helmet on the road and the only one like it. It was my flight helmet. I have never seen another one like it except on a pilot. I was going to buy a Honda VTX 1800 until it occurred to me that I couldn’t take my dog on it. I just couldn’t pull that trigger. Yes, she’s that much fun. At stoplights we get unending “thumbs-ups” and pictures taken out car windows. She’s truly a celebrity!

You're the real deal Mr. JR. Love the way you make your videos. Although it must be very challenging to go on these motorcycle adventure trips through the mountains by yourself, you have a way to present your episodes in a very relaxed and simple way. I started motorcycle adventure trips this spring when I sold my Indian Scout and bought a Honda CRF 300L Rally. Never felt so alive and happy on a bike. Last summer, I did the MABDR alone with all my camping gear and had a great time. Next summer I plan to do the COBDR. I'll be 57 then. I can smell those evergreens through the screen man! You are so right, take the time to really take in the spot you're at. We just got back from a trip of a lifetime to Idaho. 1300 miles of dirt. Each break and camp we made, I kept thinking man, we really gotta get back on the trail. About halfway through the trip, we started taking a few side tracks off the route, cooking more, taking more in, and the urge was still there, but man looking back we saw more of the awesome back country this way. There were a few places where we just didn't have the time and it's a perfect reason to go back. We took the tour of Idaho T3 dual sport route south to north and the BDR back south with a ton of our own side routes. What a place man. I had not idea the pacific northwest was as fantastic as it is. It's so great that you are able to do what you do man. I've taken some bad falls and bangs and it's really made me be thankful for my time on earth. Really love these and how you do the filming man. Can't wait for the next one!! I saw some of the spot's I had seen you ride out that way and it really brought it to life. Safe travels my friend!!

Hey I saw you in a video on the Blue Ridge mtns. When I lived in Kentucky I did the ride from Northern VA to Gatlinburg on a four day trip. Loved it. Really liked the scenery on that stretch in AV. My DR650 needs a thorough going through now after 25,000 miles. Nothing major is wrong. Original bearings all around. Just wear from many rough trails. It had an ignition problem I’ve solved and will cover sometime. Not your usual suspects. Thanks for your comment.

Thanks. I had a Motoz Rallz front and Shinko 244 rear. I had a new rear Rallz but wanted to get the last wear from the Shinko. I’ve used Kenda and Shinko 244 a lot. Later in the season I have all Motoz and they are great but more money!

Hello- how do you prepare for a bear or mountain lion encounter when you are camping by yourself in the forest.

I take the standard precautions. I haven’t camped or traveled in Grizzly Bear country per say. Primarily keep camp free of food items and clean. Black bears don’t concern me from a safety standpoint and mountain lions less so. Basically, I’m aware of surroundings and where potential predators are warned of and act accordingly without fear.
