Ep 12 Day19/ 3 week motorcycle camping adventure continues. I asses my injuries and with smoke entering the area, ride my dual sport northward from Featherville via Rocky Bar and Trinity Ridge trails, Section 2 IDBDR , Lowman, the water crossing on to Yellow Pine. Heat and some pain slow things down but the terrain does not care. Gold mine towns, washed out road, a stream crossing and miles of twisty track stand between me and a river camp in Yellow Pine.

JR thanks for the reflections. I've watched a few of your videos and today I subscribed, helping get you to 1,000. You are 100% correct that getting out is one of the best things a person can do. Unfortunately, for me I'm going through one of those life moments that will prevent me from getting out for a while. You can bet I'm looking forward to that free time again.

Great videos! I really like the fact you don't add fake drama to your videos to get more subscribers. Also like the fact you don't play a lot of loud music. The solitude on these Idaho backroads is what's really appealing to me....good job!

JR another wonderful trip you took us on, the other thing in aviation they say for an accident is, there is always a chain of events leading up to a crash, not just one mistake. I'm glad it was not any worse than it was. For me there is nothing that compares to getting out on the bike. It's a real freedom and the DR650 is such a wonderful machine. Thank you.

I appreciate you discussing the act of assessing your crashes. By far the worst crash I've ever had was caused by physical fatigue. And poor mental health. My head just wasn't in it And I picked a very bad line and suffered consequences. The accident could have easily been prevented by me considering how I was feeling and deciding To take it easy and not ride such a hard trail. I appreciate the content, keep the videos coming. They're keeping my spirits high through the Winter months.👍

It really is the good life. I can't wait to go on an adventure this summer. I agree with you, fatigue slows down our thinking and our reflexes. I travel from sunrise to sunset. On the other hand, when I feel tired I stop on the side of the road and I take a nap between 20 and 30 minutes and then I leave. In my case, the telltale signs of fatigue are difficulty maintaining a steady speed and when I start to find my adventure less beautiful, the scenery less beautiful. Thanks for sharing your adventure.

Getting older means days getting shorter for me. Out on the trail requires thinking well ahead and allowing flexibility into the plan. Remote trails with sometimes hours without seeing a vehicle can cause complacency too. Can’t wait for spring and another season too. Thanks for comments.

Looks like a beautiful place to ride! It is good that you weren't more seriously injured. I hope your recovery is going well. Any time I camp by my lonesome, I end up turning in early and thus wake up for an early start. That just seems normal to me. Thanks for taking us along.

Another great episode JR! Really solid advice about the contributing factor to the crash. Most folks would not have been honest enough to put it out there. Glad you were able to continue riding on. Hi Jr, just found your channel, binge-watching following spinal surgery, and I have to say, it's truly inspirational. Hey JR, recent subscriber here. I really enjoy your travels and did much of the Idaho BDR with a buddy on my Drz and his WR250. We camped most of the time as well except when the Drz stator failed in Utah. Amazingly was able to limp back home to Gypsum, CO to pick up the truck and trailer. We're planning on going back later this year. I love your approach to your videos - very low key and just enjoying the trip (I'm no spring chicken either). I picked up a DR last year in order to run with my big-bike friends and extend our range a bit. Been on 1 trip with it to S. CO so far and loving the new bike! Hope you're healed up from your adventure and maybe I'll see you on the trail sometime!

@@jrdepew Yep, love my DRZ but stators are its Achilles heel. I'm on #4 but 1 was defective so that doesn't count. Been tiding the bike for 17 years and I'm pretty good at stator replacements so it's all good. Loving your videos!

JR fantastic video. Thanks so much I’ve watched all of your videos now and they are just great. We were about to come over to the US from Australia and ride the TAT but Covid got in the way. Following your videos I’m wondering whether we don’t do the northwest BDR tracks instead it just looks unreal. I like your reference to ADV bikes and aviation, there’s a strong link there. I’ve almost finished my instrument rating here in Mudgee. A beer in the river doesn’t get much better. Look forward to the next video.

Thanks Scottie, there is a connection for me as retired pilot. The TAT is very popular and I know Aussies come here to do it. From a sheer awe inspiring plus technical challenge point the western USA is a bigger bang for the buck. The RideBDR.com organization has tracks and information free. I will also direct you to backcountrybyways.com. I have not used his services yet, but would not hesitate to. Might be especially useful coming from out of country. Cheers.
