After our adventures in the Rif we arrive at the gates of the Great Atlas. Once on the desert plateau, the thermometer panics, and for the first time we pass the 42° mark.
We are liquefying in our wetsuits and Falkor likes the hammam average. We therefore take several breaks during the journey to cool this brave beast.
After these forced cooling breaks, the landscape changes again and here we are in the Ziz valley. The oases mingle with the desert and we drive in these landscapes and for the first time since the beginning of the trip I feel that we are far from home.
ZIZ VALLEY
Around 6 p.m., we arrive at our Luna del Fuego guesthouse in the heart of the Ziz valley. Haïsha and Ismael welcome us to their magnificent house built in the middle of a beautiful oasis
At the start of the Ziz valley, we cross our fingers that Falkor holds out. The road is beautiful and deserted and we cross these impressive landscapes in blazing heat. We will have the right to our heat record by rubbing shoulders with 45°!
But as you can imagine, Falkor didn't really appreciate this new record. We have about 3 hours of road and during 2h30 the motorcycle will cough non stop obliging us to stop from time to time.
MERZOUGA
Merzouga is a small Saharan village located in the middle of the desert and close to the border with Algeria.
Around 6:30 p.m. we leave behind our hostel and we see our mounts arriving in the distance. We leave with Mustafa towards the great dune of Erg Chebbi, reputed to be the highest in Morocco.
After the tour, we call a mechanic with whom we spoke on Facebook. We embark Falkor at the entrance of the city and there we meet Saïd the young mechanic and Mohamed the boss.
A first fuel filter is inspected but it is in good condition. On the other hand, the second is super clogged.
After these few days in this heat that we have never experienced before. We are quite convinced not to hang around too much in this desert region. Too hot and too arid in this month of June. We tell ourselves that our Swiss bodies are really not made to live in this crazy heat, but once again, exactly the opposite will happen.
Meetings, fate and the kindness of Moroccans will mean that instead of fleeing to the mountains as we imagine, we find a new Workaway in the middle of the desert, barely 1 hour from where we are.
MERZOUGA - WORKAWAY
Leaving Merzouga, it is again 42 degrees but we are ready to face the heat of the desert.
The motorcycle coughs up to a small lost village in the middle of the desert and once again, we will experience our famous saying that everything we plan often ends up being completely the opposite.
We who wanted to spend a maximum of 3 days in the desert, here we are on board for 3 crazy weeks to live with an incredible family in a new Workaway…
But all that is another story.

For referencing: here we are talking about motorcycle travel also called motorcycle travel. We travel with our motorcycle on long road trips in Morocco. Road trip in the Ziz Valley and in Merzouga and road trip in Morocco. It's a motorcycle trip that took us on the roads of Switzerland, France, Andorra, Spain, Portugal, Gibraltar and Morocco. In this episode we have mechanical problems with Falkor our BMW GS800. Heat problems (GS800 heat problem). The faulty fuel pump almost stalled us with strong heat. We go to see a mechanic in Merzouga and we take the opportunity to take a walk in the desert.
