I traded my Suzuki GSX1250FA in on a Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 & the first reaction with my riding friends was gut wrenching laughter. The reaction all but silenced as soon as they rode it. Laughter turned to smiles & I had to pry the bike from their hands! I have noticed that there seems to be a trend towards simple under stressed design as of late, I've been waiting for this sensible trend since I sold my Honda CB500 in 1980 & went down the expensive & ego pleasing path of more horsepower & less brains until I started watching your videos. Thanks. The only thing I hate about the Enfield is everywhere I go it draws a crowd & then I have to stand & talk instead of ride.

Dave G whilst I agree this can be done with basic mechanical knowledge but would it invalidate your warranty as you have not used a official royal Enfield dealer. Whilst I salute them for bringing such great bikes (I myself own a carbed 500 bullit) to market at such a great price, but it does feel they are clawing it back thru service intervals?

@@jbird330 I will research if changing my own oil & lubricating per manual voids the warranty. I'm a bit anal about changing my oil & filter more frequently & keeping the chain adjusted, cleaned & lubed. I live in Ontario Canada So I don't winter ride like the lads in the UK. I will leave the valve adjustment & such for the trained technicians at the dealer for now but once the warranty is up I'll do it myself. I've been working, re-building bikes for about 50 years now, my father wouldn't allow my brothers & I to own vehicles unless we did our own work on them, old school cheap Celtic father.

Cheers for your NEC vids Stuart, great camera work and insightful comments as ever. Visited on Thursday morning but bailed out mid afternoon as the show became packed out. Pleasing to see such a lot of interest in the RE, Norton and Triumph stands. The Atlas really appealed to me too, although lots of pennies there’s nothing wrong with having aspirational desires... We look forward to your future Norton reviews, l’m sure Stuart Garner would too, l’ll put a word in for you when l next bump into him!

Hi Stuart, I went to the NEC on the last day and had a highly enjoyable five hours there. Norton was a great disappointment for me. Although the bikes look terrific, on throwing a leg over, the positioning of the gear and rear break was almost impossible for me with too short a clearance to the pegs. I just wouldn’t be able to ride them, so I found it all shine with no practicality. Of course, the Atlas was locked away so couldn’t sit on that one! Great vids on the show Stuart; you’re dedicated to your craft and you have many thanks! Yours aye, Alan

Bought and restored a ‘74 Commando in 1984. Put 30,000 miles on it over 15 years, but tired of the maintenance and cost. Have four bikes: 97 Honda Valkyrie, 2014 Triumph Bonneville T100, ‘09 BMW R1200RT and ‘94 BMW R1100RS. The Triumph is my favorite bike due to handling and looks. Not to be a critic of your review, but I would like to know more about the ordering issues, maintainability, rideability and cost. Norton has a checkered past.

Really really love the Nortons. I rebuilt an Atlas 25 years ago in fact. Would never buy a brand new one under the Garner ownership. I am put of by the storys of paying deposits and even asked for full payments just to either not getting the bikes or delays that last for years. However I would and will get a used one that's actually in front of me for sale.

We love the look of the Atlas, so much so my wife ordered the Nomad at last years NEC show. Still no signs of them actually making her bike yet but we are holding our nerve and playing a waiting game in the hope of having something unusual, distinctive and British (although I believe the engine will be built in China). Norton now have a new investor on board so hoping this will help ramp up production and lessen what for many are the unacceptably long wait times from order to delivery.

So I guess my earlier comment could be followed up with a larger discussion on Norton and “Premium” motorcycles in general. Do you buy the handcrafted Norton for the name only, because we don’t know how they really function? The other possibility is the CCM, well built, trusted and we do know how well they are a quality machine. I also think if both company’s established a small factory in North America they would and could survive even the harshest economical down turns.

The £15K for a Commando is a lot of money. A bit out of my range. It's a lovelly bike and I would like one. Norton could really do with a few more dealerships, but I guess that only comes with making a lot more bikes. Last time I looked there are about 5 dealerships in the UK, you have to go a long way to get to one.

Still gutted as I had arranged to go to the NEC on the 24th but thanks to SouthEastern Trains incompetence I couldn't get to my pick up point - it looks like a very good show was missed. As to Norton I hope they are successful but at the moment I would not have the confidence to commit funds to their range.Ive been lucky enough to see a Honda RC213V-S on the road - the Norton V4 RR looks every bit as good for a fraction of the price but there needs to be more owners views and reviews from the press etc to gain more of idea as to how good they fare in ownership. Thanks anyway Stuart for your videos.

What great machines with a beautiful line and engineering. Never owned or rode a Norton, I had a Triumph 750, but I did meet the famous Dr Norton and worked on his house. He showed me around his garage/museum at one end where he also had one of Barry Sheens racing bikes, many early Norton bikes and..........an Aston Martin DB6 in a big, zip-up plastic bag. Lastly, what was the name of the music you played at the end please.

Great video. I like that you've made several shorter videos. I visited on the Monday. Another enjoyable show to enlighten us to the bikes available and how they look and feel to touch. Magazine pictures never do justice. The highlighst for me were CCM and Triumph. The quality of the CCM stand and the friendliness of staff really stuck with me as well as the bikes. I felt there was a lot of interest in the mid capacity bikes particularly the adventure bikes. Maybe people are realising they don't need the massive behemoths to ride on tarmac (as happened in the car world). The "emporer's new clothes" BMW stand had far less bikes than last year and I heard a staff member telling a guy that the Germans decided this year that showing fewer bikes there would be more space for people to get around(what they doing next year - LCD screens). I was disappointed not to be able to get up close to the new 650 Nortons and overheard similar comments from others.

Comprehensive as ever Stuart. I attended the show over the first weekend and generally I liked the Norton's on show. They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but sadly the Atlas and the other iteration of the 650 twin did not do it for me. They seem cluttered with CNC brackets and bent bits of alloy sheet that have plenty of form, but not much function. This combined with a chassis that looks like it should be housing something from Briggs and Stratton means that these bikes will not be on my wish list for 2020. Enjoying your videos, keep up the good work.

I find it ironic that membership of the EU saw the British bike industry flounder like an oxygen starved kipper yet as we get set to take the helm of our own destiny and steer a course of our own making the British bike industry is undergoing a renaissance. Hopefully things can only get better as we learn to rely on our own metal once again. The empire killed our competitive edge such that we relied too much on obligated markets and EU homogenised regulation serves no better if we are to compete in a wider sphere... Such that CCM has to build limited editions to by pass EU costly regulation is utter bullshit..
