IIRC the rubber bumper MGBs had parts added to the spring which raised the car so the headlights reached the minimum height required in the USA. That's why the car looks "lifted." These parts can easily be replaced with the earlier ones to bring the car back down where it should be.

Nice build. Maybe make a header that punches through that front fender and comes down the side rocker panel like an old Vette! Something legal so the law doesn't harass you. MGBs aren't that expensive. You can get a decent chassis with bad engine for $2k, somewhat better second life than a liter class sport bike engine swap. The old timers never hesitated to swap engines on Midgets, Sprites and other MGs, thats for sure. They tuned the shit out of them, new cams, new trannys, new rear ends, v6s, v8s, and more.

Is there a reason why you didn't use a header and run the exhaust underneath? That way you have back pressure and it would look stock. Great build.

Most of the reason is because of space. Would be an option though just would take a lot of bends.

Hey man, you could have had a v8! I’m a bit biased though as I dropped a corvette engine in a 1960 Austin Healey 3000 and later A 1982 GMC S15 . Now my need for torque is satisfied by a 289 ford v8 in my 1967 Sunbeam Tiger… can’t shake this Gearhead affliction 🥸

love it -- - i can see the space for exhaust is limited ----- maybe you could keep those pipes, cut the shorter and cap them with a narrow tall collector then exit somehow, mayybe loop around the front and then back ----- i'm sure you dropped a lot of weight so i bet it's going to handle better --- it will be better when it's quieted down--- not sure if that clutch will hold up or how hard/expensive it will be to change -- maybe there is a way to put a car clutch in it --- an overdrive gearbox behind a bellhousing would be interesting and then put super low gears in the back ---- awesome project --- i like the GT version better but very cool car --- i don't think you are killing the value --- if anything you are raising it --- if it was 100% restored that might be another story but then again restomods are beringing the money these days ---

@@J-JsGarage i noticed you ened up doing the exhaust the way i was thinking but you added the turbo - whole carl is really cool because it was pretty simple --- i saw that rear engine fiat and that was like 10x more work --- and i don't want a header less than a foot from my head. Great program and i love the car --- i'm not a big fan of the hood exhaust but at least it's quieter now ..... why don't you run the exhaust out the back to be more normal and maybe used the holes in the hood for the intake. So do you think it handles way better? you put the motor as far back and as low as possible I see.

MGBs are valuable classics now. My advice (for what it’s worth) is to go the extra mile and design an exhaust system with a muffler and make the car into a usable daily driver. The exhaust standpipes are neat, but it was a lazy fix because there was no room for a proper set of headers. The car is worth more than that!

That thing is awesome! It would be good to have a gear indicator. It’s probably faster and more reliable than an MG too. Mind you, my dad and I built an MGB GT when I was a kid with a race engine. It would go well over 100MPH but it didn’t have a spoiler and ground effects to keep the front end down. You might want to get a chin spoiler to keep the front end planted if you’re planning on eventually going fast in that car.
