Hi Phil, passed my MOD2 earlier on this week, I had great tuition from Abbey Rider Training in Swindon, but these videos you have made were great to watch on days before my lessons and test to help reinforce what I had learnt and a bit extra! Keep it up, you have created an invaluable resource for new and experienced riders 👍🏻

Hi. I'm a 56 year old newbie to motorcycle 🏍️ riding, but donkeys years of car driving. The subject of Left hand bends at approx minute 17 in the video.... Managed to figure that out by myself fortunately, but you're one of the few to mention it explicitly, don't try to make a view by driving on the right side when it's clearly not safe to do so. It's so important that the subject should never be raised without mentioning this caveat, but I've been through plenty of KZbin videos where it's not mentioned at all, let alone clarified. It should be part of Motorcycle Tests to check that these differences are understood. Thanks for getting the ball rolling...

thank you Martin, interestingly generally, at test level students are encouraged to stay fairly central in their lane, particularly on lefts. Then word and mouth and some post test training creates this offside approach without much extra info. Can be quite scary! all the best

Really simple and instructive video. I've been through a few of your now and you have a nack of explaining what SHOULD be simple, in a very understandable way. Passed CBT on Monday, mod1 then 2 days later... and in 72 hours I am in for the mod2. I am 45 and I swear I haven´t been this nervous since Uni. The whole "one mistake and that's it" is a worry.

@@MotorcyclePWR Revisiting this vid again. I know some (adanced qualified & not) favour a hazard absent default position closer to the crown of a single carrageway roads, (absent of seen nearside hazards)...between 2 & 3 (of 3) I undertand the advantages but would not want to be there if concentration lapsed when there was oncoming traffic. Any thoughts on the above ? Time & time I watch & listen to you...So much looks right, sounds right... & crucially FEELS right when, (as best able), incorporated into my riding. Thanks again
@MotorcyclePWR
@MotorcyclePWR 2 жыл бұрын
@@AW8UK thank you, the more I think about it the less i feel there is a default position, as it should always be appropriate to the moment. You are right, if you sit close to the crown and lapse concentration there is always the liklihood of a problem! Ride safe, all the best

Question here…noticed you did filtering of traffic where there were chevrons on the road, approaching traffic light crossing….is this legal and is this such a good idea……those cars may not see you creeping up on their right side and could pull away as you try to pass, making for a dangerous situation, how many car drivers look at their side mirrors before pulling away…..very few I suspect, I would caution such filtering personally….I prefer to stay behind vehicles when I see chevron markings and once safe to do so and road markings allow, then overtake….just a point here, maybe I have it wrong…..I do find your advice very helpful, thank you…
@MotorcyclePWR
@MotorcyclePWR Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comments. Yes, well pointed out to be cautious in the circumstances you mentioned, and i think the decision to filter here would be based on a number of factors, but experience, speed, road width and a return gap being part of it. It all has to be able to come together safely. Legally the highway code says that you must not pass the leading moving vehicle on approach to a pedestrian crossing or the lead vehicle which has stopped to allow pedestrians to cross. The inference here is that if it has stopped because of traffic congestion and no pedestrians are crossing you can filter. Hope this helps, best regards

But if u pull back behind a large lorry the person behind you may tailgate u. Especially if its an audi or bmw driver. I would add that some bikers point their bike near to the rightside if stopped behind a car that way they wont be crushed if they get rear ended. Im getting a suzuki gsx s125 its got ABS peace of mind if I do decide to panick brake like many beginners do. Im gonna get airbag vest too. White helmet, white gloves, white racing boots even if it means a little bit noticed by people and hi viz strips on my bike too. And fluorscent yellow jacket like yours. Like it isnt a fashion show its safety.

Why do you "check left mirror to return" after passing a cyclist?
@MotorcyclePWR
@MotorcyclePWR Жыл бұрын
Mirror checks are always taught to be done before any change of direction. Many instructors insist on lifesavers in this circumstance. It could be argued that neither are required as you know what you have just passed, but it helps confirm the location of the overtaken road user and helps regulate that you dont cut them up or collide if there are changes of speed involved. A change of position requires effective rear observations before making the change.

@MotorcyclePWR
@MotorcyclePWR Жыл бұрын
Hi, Im sorry to hear this. I cannot comment on your ability and whether biking is for you, sometimes safety implications suggest that its best not to ride. However, usually a course of training will enable a student to learn and achieve. If you have a problem with an instructor, try to find another one or a different school where you will be trained sympathetically to your needs. It may be you need some time to get used to a bike off road before going further on your CBT. All training these days should be based around the learner, what DVSA calls Client Centred learning. Dont give up, and good luck with your learning

@@MotorcyclePWR I've been on the road loads before however without a license and everything is going smoothly however the stress of having a strict instroctur behind me shouting all the time and not being clear on where to go and pin poinint the smallest thing that no one seems to look into is kind of getting in my way. The time where he snapped was when i was going to a junction and a car to the right had a good distance and I was going but he shouted to my ear to stop and if I did stop the car would of hit me but since he shouted is tuddles and nearly got hit however i went back to my original speed and avoided the car, that is when the instructur told me to not ride a motrobike. I believe a bit of faith on me would be nice instead of getting dissed all the time lol also at like the yard training he kept leaving me alone instead of teaching making me pay extra for going on the road, oof.
@MotorcyclePWR
@MotorcyclePWR Жыл бұрын
@Unknown Name I think if you are not happy with your trainer then please find another one. Difficult to comment on situations without being there; as an instructor i know that we dont want someone to pull out in front of a vehicle, but we seem to perceive things differently. I do get it some one shouts at you, especially when you are trying to concentrate that it is not helpful. As regards directions, i wouldnt worry too much about the actual directions where you go, but being safe and legal in what you do is the important thing. A good instructor will be laid back and flexible about going the "wrong way" , as long as you are safe. I wish you well with your training for the future
