Heading for the harbour town of Mallaig on the Scottish mainland, the day steadily becomes warmer and warmer. Time to pull over for a swig of water, and to change into my summer riding kit.
Later and after passing yet more white sandy beaches, I stumble by chance upon a charming campsite to spend the night . . .

Morning Kevin. Thanks for the "escape" that we find whilst watching the beautiful scenery. I would like to add, regarding wind noise on your microphone. We are chuffed that we get to listen to the noises that your hearing, wind, bird song and the sound of your bike. When your on Aslan, there is nothing better than her lovely, comforting and now familiar sound. The biggest plus is your commentary and humour. I guess what I'm saying is, please don't ever get drawn into adding music over the video. All of the above is why we always look forward to your video. We have switched off from others as soon as it starts. Thanks again Kevin, all the best, Floss and Jan.

Your commment about the smell of engine oil reminded of when I raced superkarts in the late1960s and early 1970s. We always used Castrol "R" and it had the most beautiful smell. Loved that smell so much I would add a little to my car petrol just to get the occasional wift.

Kevin, I live in the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina, USA. This area of the Appalachians, the Blue Ridge Mountains, are known for the Scottish settlers who settled here as it reminded them of Scotland. We actually have a Scottish Museum nearby. The mountains here reach 5,000 to 6,000 feet high. Those mountains you are riding through look about the same, maybe. About 1,500 miles west of here, the Rocky Mountains reach well over 10,000 feet high! Some at least 14,000 feet. Our mountains here in the Blue Ridge are covered with trees everywhere. There is not near as much cleared farmland. The mountains are too steep and the valleys narrow. A little different than what I am seeing in your travels. And, we are 350 miles from the beach!

Well, I thought another channel had stolen your thunder when, on Weds, The Scottish Isle (population 2) put out a road trip of the Lady of the Isle returning from Stirling to their place, the Isle of Shona, which you passed in this episode. No worries, she came back via the Corran ferry to Salen and then showed practically nothing of the final stretch, which you filmed. So, your channel still reigns supreme, and what a supremely beautiful stretch it was.

That vehicle at 25 minutes had all the hallmarks of a hire car driver. When I was up in north west Scotland last year they were easy to spot as nearly all of them were driving MG HS cars. When you stood up the view was much better without the windscreen obscuring it. I used to mount the cam on top of my helmet, but perhaps that's not allowed there.

Yes top mounted cameras are allowed, like a GoPro, but this camera is designed to be side mounted.

Beautiful. I didn't notice any police so was wondering if there are many that patrol the roads checking for speeders and such? Thanks,

@CountryHouseGent 25 күн бұрын
Hi Roger. Nowadays traffic enforcement in the UK tends to be through revenue, sorry, speed cameras. As for actual patrol cars, these are fairly scarce, except in large towns and cities.
@rogerr1296
@rogerr1296 25 күн бұрын
@@CountryHouseGent Not sure which is worse, speed cameras or having actual patrol cars all over. We have our share of speed traps as well, usually in smaller towns where the main revenue for police is traffic citations... a great motivator to find any reason to pull you over... 🙄. Although it is a problem over here, with YT and the internet in general, it can make it seem as if it's much worse than it really is.

The police generally stay close towns where there is a police station. I.e you can get patrol cars from Tyndrum all the way to Fort william on A82. Either with speed gun or just patrolling. The one to watch for is the unmarked police bikes and cars , especially on stretches where there is a lot of overtaking, like the approach into Glencoe. The B roads see a lot less police activity.

My brother drives a Nissan Juke, he frightens me when I'm a passenger because he's so detached from the task. And there always happens to be a Norman (that's what they're all named I reckon) who sits at 38 mph in front of me on a twisty national.

Pleased to hear it's a global epidemic Bren, and not just over here. What bugs me is they happily take the 30 or 40 mph limit of towns with them out onto the main roads. 🙄

Hello Kevin. I've heard you use the terms "camper van" and "motor home". Are they interchangeable or is camper van used only for specific vehicles? Edit: I just did a Google search and found my answer. Cheers kevin!

My road atlas spells its placenames in English, which means they are pronounceable - Kinlochmoidart. I think that this craze (in Scotland) for Gaelic spellings is just silly, since almost nobody speaks the language. The big lump of rock you passed before the junction was Rois-Bheinn, 877 metres. The anonymous railway you were latterly riding alongside stars in the Harry Potter movies.
@CountryHouseGent
@CountryHouseGent 27 күн бұрын
Wales has the same problem - Welsh first on road signs, English second. Quite dangerous in my opinion. Thanks for the name of the 'rock'. Didn't know parts of Harry Potter were filmed in Scotland.

I have the same helmet but I don't find it the quietest of the helmets I have, but on the plus side there is zero noise in the place where the mic sits in the chin bar. Not noisy enough to stop me giving it 5 stars because a modular (flip front) will always be a bit noisier than a full face.

Most of the roads I'm travelling on this trip are very remote and are essentially the original tracks and routes from centuries ago, merely tarmacked for modern traffic. On this trip I was riding between 2 and 4 hours per day.
