My ride around the Isle of Skye continues as I take a left turn at Sligachan and head across country towards Dunvegan.
As my trusty BMW R1200GS Adventure and I climb steadily over the surrounding hillsides, visibility decreases as the fog thickens.
Fortunately as we descend across the other side towards the town of Portree, conditions become clearer - and includes a sudden encounter with a large Bee . . .

Hard to believe ( and at the same time easy) that somebody took time out of his day to "corrrct" you on how to recite a cliche rather than just assume that yours is the way people say it where you live. And yes the Beatles could make any phrase into a hit even if repeated ad nauseum. What a magnificent group they were.

Your expression “pea souper”, reminded me of growing up in coastal Maine(USA). My granddad was from the UK, and a foggy day was always called a “proper pea souper”. Another great ride! Love the foggy times too! Had a friend who was an Emergency Medical Tech and he rode his motorcycle without a jacket and one day on the expressway a bee hit his chest and stung him with the stinger so hard it stayed in him. He went into cardiac arrest and put the bike down. A good samaritan stopped and he told her what was happening and to removed the bee and give him chest compressions until help came, no cell phones then! He was lucky to live and never rode again with his leathers on!!!!

Don't mind the naysayers who complain about your British words and phrases like 'touch wood'. The true Anglophiles among your audience understand, nay enjoy it, when you use them. Just like when you complemented the 'tarmac'; a word only associated with airport runways here in the states, but is obviously the British equivalent to 'asphalt' here in America! Cheers Kevin!

From Wikipedia: "Tarmacadam is a concrete road surfacing material made by combining tar and macadam (crushed stone and sand), patented by Welsh inventor Edgar Purnell Hooley in 1902. It is a more durable and dust-free enhancement of simple compacted stone macadam surfaces invented by Scottish engineer John Loudon McAdam in the early 19th century. The terms "tarmacadam" and "tarmac" are also used for a variety of other materials, including tar-grouted macadam, bituminous surface treatments and modern asphalt concrete."

It’s taken me two days to watch this video. I love the riding through the clouds because it reminds me of somewhere I visited in my past. The bee was hysterically funny! But surely you’re old enough to remember Woodstock! Richie Havens had finished his set and was told the helicopter bringing in the next band was late. He was asked to keep singing. He had sung everything he had written. That’s when he came up with his song “FREEDOM “. A one word song.

Once again, my faith in humanity (not inhumanity) is renewed. CHG has experienced and related his wonderful travelogue. Stunning scenery, great commentary... makes me feel like I've come along for the ride. "Knock on wood" there will be many more to come. That poor bumble bee! After getting knocked silly, (s)he blows around in the cavitation vortex between the front shield and the travel bag on the tank. Unfortunate for the bee, but great camera action! Love the names of the towns you pass through... and yes... some of them have a Scandinavian "ring" to 'em. Cheers Kev! BTW... you talk in more than one "episode" about dutch fishing trawlers. Might there be one in your future? Would you sell Aslan? Sea boating would be MUCH more of an adventure... I guess I'm projecting some of my dream travels on you.

'there are people who seem to drive around totally oblivious to the fact anybody else is on the road' -- sounded like you were travelling through Texas...wasn't going to bring it up, but one aspect of this series is that motorcycling appears inherently more dangerous than canal boating; zooming down the motorway may be more exhilarating viewing than chugging along in Aslan, but also less peaceful...these videos are gripping documents of your movement through some of Scotland's islands -- the fog was an impressive scenic touch, reminded me of my drinking years, "Highland Mist" was an inexpensive Scotch whiskey I'd resort to from time to time --

Yes i had to get a new Bell helmet as it got badly scratched as well . That stone came off a bridge on the A38 in Devon . Did not see it coming at all . But i did not crash my bike . The stone just missed my pal that was about to over take me at the time.

Had bees and birds hit my visor. But a stone was the worse . As it smashed it big time luck i did have sun glasses on at the time.
