Hey Aron, I just found your channel and I’m loving the content! One small request though-improving the audio quality would make it even better. Really appreciate all the great information you share!

yup 100% agree this video was not the best for audio. I've been some decent improvements since then, check out some of my more current stuff and you should hear the difference!

Thanks for sharing that information Aaron. To be honest I haven't gone down that "rabbit hole".....yet. I can't afford a full race prepped bike so I am running the only bike I have in the class that allows us to run a "track day prepped" bike and I am running the stock gearing. A video on suspension definitely gets my vote. I am trying to learn more about adjusting my suspension. As I learn to be a better rider on the track I am becoming much more aware of how the bike handles/feels when pushing my limits. Being a "working man" trying to make a living I am trying to learn all this myself to keep the costs as low as possible. Really appreciate the great content, thanks Aaron! Keep yourself safe! 😃👍❤🏍 Randy

Good job, Aaron. Proper convention is to speak in terms of long (or tall) and short. I think when you say aggressive, you are implying a short gearing ratio. Your analysis of trying to pair a constant wheelbase while exploring gearing changes is spot on. I'll watch dudes chase their tails all day long changing out rear sprockets not realizing they are altering (what may already be) a good geometry for them. Glad you are sharing this info! Good luck, hope to see you at cornerspin or one of the midwest tracks someday!

Great explanation 👍 I've not ever been on a track, but maybe one day. My 600 has a vortex 14F and vortex 42R. Thinking I'd like to put it back factory. Or at least 15F and 42R is what I think I would like.

Usually a +2 rear is a good starting point, what bike do you have?
@daytonasayswhat9333 Жыл бұрын
Hi. Very good video. One thing you might want to keep in mind that you’re also limited by your chain length. Both how short wheel base you can go, and how long. I guess you could carry multiple chains with you, but typically, you’re only going to have a certain finite amount of gearing changes you can do with a certain chain length before the Chain is too long or too short.
@AAron_Rides Жыл бұрын
100% correct sir! That’s why I match the gearing for the wheel base for making large changes at the track. Later if I want to make smaller adjustments I’ll reset the wheelbase and get the chain right at the same time. Good point!

On my 600's my 1st mod is usually a 520 conversion -1, +1 or 2. And I havnt been to a track in 15yrs. Otherwise the bikes just feel gutless to me. I have not noticed the engine breaking to the extreme that your mentioning. Depending on what type of speedo setup I'll get a speedo healer or just use the GPS to calculate my speed so I know approximately what I'm going compared to what it's reading. But the most thing is losing that top end speed limit. But on the street who needs to go that fast?
@AAron_Rides7 ай бұрын
For street use, the -1/+2 is perfect and it’s not bad for EB as on the track.

I appreciate the video but it was a little confusing. Basically every time you add a larger sprocket (front or rear), you are shortening the wheel base. Also I think it is worth pointing out that there are limits to how much you can change them due to a) chain length or b) interference with the frame, or c) running out of extension on the back. I think it is worth explaining why you would go with say 14/45 vs 14/46 from a riding perspective also. You're going to do well in Novice this year. No shame in downshifting if you are not improving your riding as an expert.

How better is the fall in on the 60 compared to the 55
@AAron_Rides Жыл бұрын
So the turn-in/fall-in isn't something you should be thinking about with a REAR tire. Turning performance needs to be a front end activity and the rear needs to be focused on finishing the corner/acceleration performance. The taller tire makes for a larger contact patch when leaned over so the performance goes like this: 190/60 > 180/60 > 180/55. I've raced all sizes and have really come to appreciate the 190/60 Pirelli over the other sizes they offer.
@Drewrides89 Жыл бұрын
@Aaron Dearborn #773 if that isn't something I should be worried about, why do they continue to make different sizes with different contact patch circumference? And last I checked most people are worried about the contact patch of the rear tire
@AAron_Rides Жыл бұрын
@@Drewrides89 I don't understand, you've basically pointed out exactly what I was getting at haha! I was saying turning performance is not a REAR tire function. So a different REAR tire size is aimed at creating better contact for acceleration NOT turning. Of course, you cannot change one part of the suspension/geometry without effecting another, so there is some minor changes to the whole bike when the rear tire size is different.
@Drewrides89 Жыл бұрын
@Aaron Dearborn #773 seriously? If you have a 180/60 rear tire compared to a 190/55 you have a faster fall in on the 180/60 but less of a contact patch compared to the 190/55! Correct? I was asking is there any noticeable difference on the 60 compared to the 55
