This is how tutorial videos should be, about 5 minutes, short, compact, informative. Covering just one topic in its basics. Not 15-30 minutes of general empty talk without any real information in the end. Essential for bike newbies like myself. Thank You guys, please keep up the amazing work!!! Subscribed.

One thing you may want to add to the procedure, pouring a few oz of fresh oil into the new oil filter before lubricating the gasket & installing it is always a good idea. It only takes an extra 10 seconds, and allows your bike to have less "dry time" after an oil change. If you notice the first time starting your bike after an oil change the oil pressure warning light will stay on for a couple seconds. This is because the bike is "dry" when started with a brand new (empty) oil filter and it takes a moment for the pump to cycle oil through the system and into the filter thus creating proper pressure/lubrication and turning off the oil warning lamp. If you fill your new filter with oil before installing it, the time is takes to turn the oil light off is usually no longer than on any typical first start of the day. This puts less wear on your engine components and especially on a bike that has seen or will see many many miles and years of riding every little bit of premature wear you can remove from the equation is good!

I've never filled the oil filter (not saying it's stupid or a bad idea!) and have never had an oil pressure warning. Oil changes always seem to be a polarizing topic, to each their own I suppose!

I suggest filling the oil filter with oil before installing. You will see the red oil pressure light go out almost instantly on start-up. Less time with the engine running without oil pressure. If you are careful there will be little to no oil spill from the filter. Once you start the filter on the threads the oil doesn't spill out. Just be sure to fill the filter only thru the center hole.

That is the reason why i like vertical downwards facing filters. Fill to the top, screw in instant pressure.

I'm not an expert on bikes, but with cars and trucks you really only need to do that when it's a big diesel engine. Cars don't need that. I assume bike's oil filters more closely resemble cars rather than diesel trucks.

Well, given that motorcycles have smal oil filters and small oil pumps then the time to fill up the oil filter by the pump alone is significant.

I recommend to tighten the filter 1/4 turn after hand tight especially if its seal is an o ring not flat ring & replace the crush washer if its not built in the bolt & finally let the oil drain for the next day...gd luck!

It's also worth noting for novice mechanics that while most new filters come with oil pre-applied to the O-ring, you should still apply oil because you don't know how long that filter's been sitting on the shelf/in the warehouse and how old that oil is.

@VerbalKint742
@VerbalKint742 8 жыл бұрын
+BIGGZ46 From my experience engines with separate gear box (as car engines) tends to get the oil thicker by the mileage, so it's an old (car) mechanic trick to remove the filler cap to help "thicker" oil drain down easily. Motorcycle engines tends to get the oil thinner after mileage, so i don't think that there is a need to open filler cap for help an almost water viscosity oil to drain down.

I know the first oil change is 600 miles. I have a event coming up which is about 400 miles. Do I charge the oil before the ride or stretch it and change the oil after I come which would make 800 miles in total

Make sure to pour oil into the filter as well so that it doesn't start completely dry. Use synthetic oil, a magnetic drain plug and change it often. Screw what the manual says. It is a high performance engine which has a wet clutch, thus breaking down the oil even faster. Would you treat your Ferrari engine that way just to save a couple bucks?

You guy should do a brake bleeding video. I know it's simple and there's plenty of videos, but on some bikes getting all the air out is nearly impossible. The air bubbles are just SO stubborn. For example, bleeding my friend's Bandit 1200S when he installed SS lines was ridiculous. There was sufficient pressure and it was fine, but it just wasn't good as before. I tried bleeding from the banjo bolt connections and it definitely helped, but it still was not quite as good as before.

is it bad that I crank my motorcycle for less than 5 seconds just to get the few bits of oil out? I mean there is still a lot of used oil left in the cams and pump. about 250ml goes out draining. and I usually do this right after riding where the oil is still hot, I wear leather gloves so no worries, just so the pistons and cams will still have little oil when I crank them and hopefully not do much wear to the engine parts

This makes air go into the oil system, and potentially could lead to parts not receiving enough oil while the pump sucks in the new oil. If it harms the engine or not I can't say.

I dont think its an issue, oil changes its color pretty soon. Sometimes even sooner than 300km. Usually its not about a color, but density. 600km oil can be black but its going to be less dense and dirty than 5000km oil, but still almost same in color.

Gbata111 2 Read owners manual and find the right one. Then, bleed and flush the system clean. Refill proper oil and replace the filter. Dunno about the pump situation though

GujaratiHonda I had an oil analysis done on my 2008 cbr600rr with Honda Gn-4 conventional oil. It was good only for 3,000 miles.

It's kinda funny how different each motorcycle is. On this, you need a strap wrench to take out the oil filter, but on an SR400, it's 3 screws on the side of the engine and it pops right out.

just a question. i got a brand new bike and after a few days i noticed from oil window that the engine oil is very low, below the bottom line. the question is is it safe to change oil even its brand new?
@Dankyjrthethird
@Dankyjrthethird 4 жыл бұрын
That can happen, the people that did your pre delivery inspection were lazy lol. Just add a bit more of the correct grade, don’t worry too much about mixing a bit of different oil in. You can change it, but if it’s brand new it’s kind of a waste. Change it around 1000km when the break in is done.

Oil Service schedule, 500 miles or 1 month, whichever comes first. 10,000 miles or 1 year whichever comes first Does synthetic motor oil go bad after 1 year if you don't reach the mileage interval? Why would you change the oil every year if the bike does not see the mileage?

You forgot a couple key points when you do the filter one you want to make sure the old gasket came off and to if you can fill the filter up before installing it.

All Honda's from 2006 forward call for 10w 30. Pro Honda oil has the GN4 mineral oil in 10w 30 (black bottle) and they also have HP4S full synthetic in 10w 30 (red bottle). These oils are made specifically for Honda motorcycles. That's what you should be using. I have a 2011 CBR 1000RR and I only use Pro Honda HP4S full synthetic 10w 30. 10w 40 is too thick for the tolerance in Honda engines.

Honda HP4S full synthetic. It's all I run in my 500r and 650r. I change it every 3k miles or every spring. It's worth it if your planning on keeping your bike for a long time (over 75k miles)

Why should i need to wormup the engine before drain the old oil. Where engine oil gets more viscosity in high temperature?? Plz explain
@Poltergeyst
@Poltergeyst 5 жыл бұрын
Oil slides to the bottom. Turning on your engine recirculates oil, and lubes your engine. It May be because drainning the oil leaves air pockets in the system, and the oil pump May not circulate oil correctly till after a few seconds, so it's best that your engine already has a film of oil lubricating its inside before changing the oil

Is gearbox oil different from engine oil in motorbikes
@johnpersonage7220
@johnpersonage7220 6 жыл бұрын
Most modern 4 stroke bikes use the same oil because the engine and gearbox are one unit and the same oil lubricates the whole engine and gearbox assembly. Some bikes use a different oil in each because the engine and gearbox are two units. Old British bikes for example. Some old bikes like the Triumph Trident/BSA Rocket 3 used three different oils for engine, gearbox and the primary drive chain. 2-strokes have just gearbox oil, the engine being lubricated by the 2-stroke oil added to the fuel mixture directly into the fuel tank (old MZ for example) or via a separate oil tank and pump.

NO. Do not warm up your bike. If it is a well maintained machine that gets regular service, multi-weight oils drains faster COLD (more importantly "completely"), when at ambient temps. 10W-40 is 10 weight oil at ambient temperatures. Multi-weight oil gets thicker as it gets hotter. It is COUNTER PRODUCTIVE to drain multi-weight oil hot unless it is ancient. Drive the bike to operating temp then park it where you drain your oil and drain it the next morning. Evey drop that's ever going to come out will come right out, it is 10 weight oil. This isn't the 60's. Please google it, it is wrong and counter productive to drain your oil hot. Work smarter not hotter.
