An outstanding Alpine location to visit in the van! The Mangart Pass which is also known as the Mangart Saddle is a high mountain pass in the Julian Alps in northwestern Slovenia. It rises to 2,072 metres (6,798 ft) and from there one can attempt the ascent of Mt. Mangart (2,679 m or 8,789 ft). The Mangart Road was built over a few months by the Italian Army in 1939, reaches 2,055 m (6,742 ft) and has a gradient of 23 percent even from the outset. It is the highest-lying road in Slovenia.
The Mangart Pass offers a picturesque view towards the Log Koritnica Valley in Slovenia to the south and the Lakes of Fusine in Italy to the north.
