Concur about booking sites. We also booked the Pont du Gard Aire as we classed that and some others as ‘destination’ sites. Sometimes there isn’t a Plan B site for us so we book it. Long trips we tend to book the ‘destination’ site and then wander down to and back from there. This was true this July coming back from Italy where we followed the sun in to France rather than through a very soggy Germany. Also, and we know there’s a cost to them and yes they can be boring, but we use Toll roads because the alternative, especially travelling from North to South in France, is too long and you can make rapid progress on the autoroutes. We all have different ideas, but I think as we’ve got older we’ve decided we like to make life easier hence the BF winter ferry to Spain and back. It’s not cheap but it’s relaxing. One things for certain which you capture so beautifully in your videos is that its not a bad life and there’s some wonderful places out there to discover. Regards to both and thanks for the inspiration to keep travelling 😊

We haven’t used Camping Car Parks yet, I think we will this year. Do you know if there is an extra charge for booking/reserving a pitch? We don’t tend to book any sites ahead, or very far ahead anyway. But when it’s going to be a long day (like Eurotunnel crossing day)it’s nice to know where you are headed. Cheers.

Hi, Helen and Martin, can you tell me what route you took through France and where did you stop apart from Pont Du Gard? We are heading off on Sunday via Eurotunnel and were planning going down the West side but may think again! Undecided as this is our first trip travelling down to Spain and just want to get to Spain as quickly as possible. Any advice gratefully received.
@helenandmartinsTreks9 ай бұрын
Hi Karen, generally we would go West in Winter. It’s better weather normally and there’s a few nice stops to . We had a short weather window and wanted to see Pont Du Gard so it worked out. That said the window closed behind us and within days it was snowing and the AP7 just over the border closed due to snow. I would still adovate West is a better option generally in winter. We useed the Camping car Parks stops at Is Sur Tille , Remoulions and Elne. Then Vilanova Park Camping in Spain Hope that helps and thanks for watching H and M

That’s great thanks for the advice.

Hi. Haven't watched the vid yet but just be aware that weather wise the west route is by far safer, and that winter tyres are a legal requirement in hilly (not even mountainous) areas in the winter.
@helenandmartinsTreks9 ай бұрын
@@mgmpw32 thanks we’re fully aware of all those points , we’ve been travelling to Spain in Winter since 2017 and 80% of the time we travel down the West Coast. There was a weather window on this occasion and we took the opportunity. Winter tyres and or snow chains are the requirement on both the routes we take. Thanks for watching Helen and Martin

Just found your vlogs. New to motorhoming as bought ours a few months ago. 8 nights in May planned for France the Spain at christmas. How long did it take to get to Spain? We are planning on going 21/12 and booking somewhere for 24th-27th but having never done it, I am worried we won't get there in the time we have given ourselves 😂. Thank you in advance 😊
@helenandmartinsTreks8 ай бұрын
Hi thanks for watching . It really depends where you want to go in Spain. I think you need to allow 3 days to get through France comfortably, then it depends how far into Spain you want to go. It's difficult to advise beyond that as it depends on your vehicle weight (speed limits reduce if your over 3.5t) , whether you're prepared to use Toll Roads which are faster and whether you have two drivers etc . It's a big ask to be fair, hope that's helpful . Best wishes Helen and Martin.

@helenandmartinsTreks2 ай бұрын
Thanks , you have to pay a card first either from the terminal at the car park entrance or in advance from the website . We have the done the latter as it's easier and you can charge it pretty easy and using the app it's possible to monitor spaces and reserve a space if it's getting busy. This is the link - www.campingcarpark.com/en_GB/info/how-does-it-work . It's a good system , we've been using it for a few years no. Hope that helps , thanks for watching Helen and Martin

Hi there, glad you are on your way…Yay! Which card would you say is the best one, to go on to camping car aires? 😊 Malc and Colleen
@helenandmartinsTreks9 ай бұрын
Hi both , do you mean the Camping CarPark Card ? , there are two options but one card. The first is to enable you to manage access to the sites etc this is €5 , or you can buy the privileges pack ( PACK'PRIVILÈGES ), this is €29 which means you can book in advance. This is sometimes handy to be able to do , otherwise sometimes he aires can be full . I would say this is desirable but not essential. The app that comes with the scheme is useful to download to youyr phone , as it shows you whether the aire is close to capacity or full. The Remoulins Aire was full all the time and this was in winter so to be able to book was great for us.. However depending on your usage , especially in Winter on most of the aires booking is not necessary . Hope that helps , let me know if I can help further or of I've misunderstood the question we are only too happy help where we can. Best wishes Helen and Martin

@@helenandmartinsTreks , Thanks for the update on the card front, it was the card Helen used to get into the aire on your last vlog but I now understand the difference now. We watch you all the time and have picked up several nice little tips, thank you 👍. We have toured France with the caravan in years gone by but this will be our first tour with our motorhome now we are both retired and children gone, well gone but not a million mile away. Our son lives on a canal boat which he built being an engineer and has his eyes on our home whilst we tour, but his big sister only lives around the corner from us, 🥰🥰🤔Of course being a fellow Red I must be able to catch the games whilst away, not yesterday 😂 looking forward to the future with Sir Jim and his team. We are all booked to travel around Europe from end of April sailing into Bilbao and have left the return dates open to see how we go, both over planning if I am honest as I was a senior transport manager and Colleen a administration manager for the local government so should know better 😂😂 keep share your great tips & trips as we ❤️❤️❤️ watching them, very informative. Cheers M&C, Malc & Colleen.

One aspect I always prioritize when deciding to take toll roads is safety. I've found that opting for the less crowded toll roads significantly enhances safety. This consideration becomes even more crucial in regions like the south of Spain, where driving standards can be relatively low. For instance, navigating the Costa del Sol via the A-7 can be quite a nerve-wracking experience due to heavy traffic and challenging driving conditions. In contrast, choosing the AP-7 offers a much more relaxed and safer journey. The difference in driving experience between these two routes is stark, highlighting the safety benefits of toll roads in areas with varying driving standards.

Very sensible, and logical, approach to booking sites - we thought we wd "wing it" in Italy last Easter...what a monumental mistake that was😮.. literally ruined the trip scrambling around trying to find park ups and campsites 😢..we had kids with us too. We are seasoned motorhomers but our days of "winging it" are over..holidays are too precious. Just hoping the CCP scheme branches out into other countries so I can get full use of our pack privileges membership - huge fan of the scheme❤ fab vlogs and I hope you enjoy your trip.
