Love your videos. We have leased five RX350's and three NX's. We currently drive a 2021 RX350. There is a difference between the two. The RX is a larger car. It has wider seats, and a quieter smoother ride for longer drives. The NX seats are smaller and is not as comfortable on the long drives. Yes, the NX are cheaper. We use the NX for short trips around town. Anything over a 100 miles we used the RX350. We both are retired and now only need one car....we're keeping the RX. Thanks again for your excellent informative videos and Sunday answer streams.

Thank you for your comment. The 450H is a fantastic car. I was comparing a RX350 to an NX 350, which is not a hybrid and does not have adaptive suspension. SInce this posting 8 months ago, I briefly leased a 2023 RX and for 5 months. I was disappointed with the lack of buttons, noise of the 4-cy turbo, and quirky behavior of the LED screen. I went to an EV. Alsoutely correct that they are much quieter then ICE. Enjoy you ride. @@donaldbanner2185

We put an order in for an NX a few months ago! We went through a similar conversation to what you two did, and ultimately felt the value from the NX was far greater - especially at the executive trim vs the equivalent price in the RX.

Nice comparison! I'm on team NX too. What's more interesting is when you take the starting price of RX into comparison, for the same money you can have NX plug-in hybrid which has more power and a pure EV drive mode. Now the story of availability is a deal breaker for some but if you're not in a hurry, might as well get the NX 450h+ and you could even get rebate!

When it comes to hybrid, nothing else builds like a Toyota and Lexus. That's exactly how these 2 have stood for, in their respective luxury segments. Although original NX had missed the marks, the new generation really have turned things around. It finally worthy of the Lexus emblem. However, if I have to choose. RX would be more my liking. Not only its the "original" compact luxury SUV, its overall packaging is more worthy of the Lexus emblem.

Great comparison, guys! I have owned a 2022 NX450h+ equipped with all the toys since last June. Coming off a 2017 RX350, I was looking for something a bit smaller, quicker, and nimbler. The 2nd gen NX fills the bill. I do a lot of local driving and the pure EV mode is slick and made efficient by the nightly recharge. The new NX450h+ is a well-sorted out vehicle. Build quantity is excellent with zero problems to date. I was aware of the new RX at the time of my purchase, and I thought that the NX better suited my circumstances and would have better mpg. A personal judgment, but I feel that the NX is the more handsome car. The nose on the new RX strikes me as a bit clumsy. I qualified for the full US tax credit which effectively reduced the real purchase price. So, 1 vote for NX!

The only options I didn’t think I’d need was the HUD display, heated rear seats nor the Mark Levinson sound system. My only quibble is the driver’s seat. I bought the NX450h+ f sports. The reason is that we already have a Mercedes GLS 450 and a GMC truck. I don’t need a heavy vehicle or a seven seater again. NX is just for me to go to work within 15 miles one way three times a day and every now and then pick up kids (only two kids in school now) from the school. It suits me better with longer e-range. Almost identical to RX450h+ bar rear seat ventilation and Mark Levinson, which I can live without and gain easy drivability (other than my 17 years old, no one is 6 ft in my family)😂😅

I am very familiar with both cars the NX and the RX. the NX is a more sporty car however the storage rollup /space comparison you provided doesn’t make sense. The RX is quoted as having 7 ft.³ more space in the rear and yet they both end up with the same amount of quoted total space. And I know the rear seat of the RX is bigger than the NX so the statistics you were given are off. I love your car reviews. Keep up the great work!

I’m surprised the video didn’t touch on, in my opinion, the key difference between the RX and NX which is; for taller drivers and passengers these two models are apples and oranges. I’m 6’3” and my teenager is almost there and after test driving both the 2023 RX and NX the debate between the two was over, I ended up ordering the RX. The NX felt tight, almost claustrophobic in comparison. Our shoulders and elbows were close to each other’s and even getting in and out was cumbersome. My wife, who’s much shorter, even commented how roomy the RX felt compared to the NX.

This video was a great resource as we were making our decision between the two models, so thanks! My wife and I ultimately ended up with the 2024 RX350h for a few reasons. First, the ride is smoother because of the larger frame and the regular (non run flat) tires. As we transitioned from an Outback to a Lexus, the trunk space on the NX just didn’t seem big enough. All that said, your video really helped us get down to the key issues in making our decision! 👍

After trying both the 2023 NX350h and 2023 RX350h, I went with the RX. The new platform made the 2023 RX much more fun to drive than 2022 RX. Better handling and suspension. Less body roll and that boat feeling. The 2023 RX looks good only in darker color to hide that grill transition. We got it in Nori Green and it's a head turner. The RX is a family car, so if you have young kids with car seats, go for the RX. The NX is barely bigger than my 2009 IS250. Also, like many families, we shop at Costco and the trunk space in the NX feels underwhelming. The RX trunk space is acceptable. RX has regular tires which is affordable, less noisy, less chance to puncture because they are thicker. And even if you puncture them, you can repair it unlike the runflat. RX is quieter than the NX as per decibel meter on other KZbin reviewers videos. RX ftw!!

These cars do not provide value for the low level extras that I want. I simply want a real spare tire and leather seats. It shouldn't be the case that in the nx, leather seats are above the premium trim, and that you must by the luxury trim in an nx simply to get leather seats. To get a spare tire, I have to buy an rx. These things shouldn't essentially be classified as top tier bells and whistles. A premium sound system, larger screen, and controls on your windshield? They are certainly absolutely top trim luxury items in my opinion. True extras. A spare tire and leather seats should not be so hard to get at a mid-level trim on a luxury suv.

Great comparison. It's only natural to cross shop the two when the high end NX price overlaps into a well equipped midgrade RX. This was the exact comparison I did before picking up a 2022 NX450H. At the time the 2023 RX had only just been announced and I put down a deposit at the nearest msrp only dealorship for additional RX along with my deposit for the NX450H. The NX came first, so I picked it up. My other considerations were the RAV Prime and last gen RX. Comfort wise, the difference would be in the width and overall ride and this goes to the RX. The height adjustment is slightly limited for seating. I like to sit upright and the NX driver's seat doesn't go down much if at all. I had to adopt a more relaxed position.

I think my Rav4 Hybrid is just right for me. Plus the Venza is almost Lexus luxury for less, so personally I'd have a tough time moving up to the Lexus name plate(unless I really wanted the top trim for some reason). That said, I wouldn't look poorly at anybody opting for either of these two. That 2.5 is reliable and efficient. The hybrid system is the tried and tested Synergy drive with it's simple planetary drive. I want to say the NX would be my choice between these two, but I would closely examine the RX too. I think for alot of people, the straight non plugin hybird is actually the most pragmatic choice for a drive train and it's too bad there isn't more out there.
@Izaya_Orihara

The Venza is nice but definitely not as practical as the RAV4 Hybrid or the Prime. It's larger than the NX and RAV4 but only because of the pointed rear. It also has less trunk space than the RAV4 (28.8 cu ft vs 37.5 cu ft) so you're getting a car that's larger on the outside but smaller on the inside which means less space is usable. I would only get the Venza if you're picky about the RAV4 being noisy and if you don't mind not having a plug-in hybrid.
@ghenry85

@@Izaya_Orihara A plugin hybird doesn't make alot of sense for me personally. And I don't mind the bit of engine noise(I'm used to farm tractors lol) from the Rav4. Yes the Venza is less practical as a Rav4, but it's far from being totally impractical. The interior of the Venza is more luxury like(even though you can get most creature comforts on the RAV4 with the Limited). I just think the Venza is an interesting option for those who don't need all the room of a Rav4, but want something higher end The NX is a good vehicle to cross shop the Venza with.

I don't drive a lot of miles so with a 5K market adjustment on the NX450h+ which I loved the idea of, it just didn't make financial sense. Even the salesperson agreed, with our yearly mileage we would never recoup our fuel savings in our lifetime. Our test drive of the NX350 was loud and felt underpowered. The 500h was overkill and we found it the ride stiffer than we want, but it's a blast to drive, and the one they had in stock was $3400+ UNDER MSRP! (but, we've had performance and stiff and are ready for more Cush) We enjoyed the gas RX and thought about pulling the trigger but with 30 on the lot and still asking MSRP, we felt we could do better or at least get our top choice of colors and options. I mentioned how I truly wanted the Matador Red in the RX350h but they can not be found and was told they were allocated several the day before, I reserved my perfect RX with a refundable deposit right then (MSRP, but I am ok with that and what we got for our trade)! We feel it will give us the roominess, ample power, quiet (enough) ride we are looking for while still gaining some added MPG's. I hear so many positive reviews, I am thrilled to be getting one.

Great video. I've owned the 2022 NX hybrid since last March, and coming from the CT200h. I have been extremely happy with my NX and Lexus has delivered. So yeah I am Camp NX for sure. A few things. At first I thought Andrea was just being picky, but I do agree there is a lot of piano black which is actually annoying when the sun reflects a certain angle. I have a Swifter towel to wipe my greasy fingers!! Second thing, I am not a fan of run flats and once they go, I'm going to replace with regular tires. I do agree that the engine can get noisy under aggressive gas pedalling. I am indifferent about the lack of a spare tire because I can always call CAA for assistance lol. The lack of a spare tire in the NX reduces the weight of the car, and there is extra storage space to put some items. I would have thought the RX would be similar to the Venza given its size and a step up from the Rav4.

i might be alone on this, but i think the previous 2020 cabin looked better. i get her point about the track pad thingy, but it looked more premium to me. glossy touch screens don't look good, when they start attracting dust and fingerprints. i like the new styling on the RX, but not so much on the NX. you're right about it being copy and paste, but i notice alot of manufacturers are doing a similar thing with their cabins. i call it a lazy omission, but they will never admit that. i wish they put a little more thought into the cabin, the RX should have something different about it that separates it from the NX. i like that the NX is the sporty version, so the cabin to me should have a sporty appearance on the inside. the RX should have a more refined cabin, that's nothing like the NX. i also think the RX should be bigger than it is, rather than coming out with a bigger version. they did that with the Highlander, but it creates too much confusion for the average buyer. if i was in charge of Toyota, i would scrap that idea, and instead do another refresh in 2025 and make the RX bigger. with 3 small compact suv's, and a even smaller UX, it's like who are you targeting. the RX should be a mid size similar to a Ford Explorer, or Lincoln Aviator. the NX can take over as the two row compact suv, and the UX can be that small commuter car. not everybody wants a small crossover, however not everyone needs a full size either. but that's why i gave 3 examples you can do, now if you think the Ford Explorer is too big, you can do something like the Ford Edge, or the Lincoln equivalent, the Nautilus. Hyundai's own Sante Fe is a perfect example, of a mid size suv. Honda's own Pilot is another example, which is also the same size as the Acura MDX. now you might think the RX is big enough, but not if you don't get much more room in the second row than the NX. so if they wanna play it safe, then what they could do, is stretch the wheel base by an inch, that would increase the leg room in the back.

One of the easiest choices… RX (ideally sans hybrid). The NX looks like an exceptionally good looking RAV4. Well done Lexus! The RX on the other hand has a much more unique and rewarding presence. I absolutely love Lexus/Toyota’s 3.5L. Especially in the long run (relatively reliable and I’m my own (trained) mechanic). The fuel consumption doesn’t bother me at all. And I’d be frightened to see future repair bills. Despite that… both of their turbo 4-banger turbos and their hybrid systems have exceeded my expectations.
@ghenry85
@ghenry85 Жыл бұрын
@@kellingtonlink956 The biggest problem that the hybrids have is the rear power cable. The a25a engines are also reliable and seem easy to work on. The exhaust system is pretty much the only thing that is not on top or infromt of the engine, where it's easy to reach. There's no accessory belt, alternator, and starter motor in the conventional sense. The AC and water pumps are run off electric motors(not prone to failure and not hard to access). The transmission has one clutch and it's an overload protection clutch so it will probably never fail. The transmission doesn't have a valve body or belt/chain. The electric motor generators and a planetary gear set take care of everything. Transaxle oil changes are a bit of a challenge since you have to fill it from underneath the vehicle, but it's pretty straight forward to understand how to change it. The only thing that you probably wouldn't want to try to touch is the hv battery and wiring. Which is fair enough. I'm definitely not saying the 3.5l v6 is anything but a good engine and the the torque converter automatics are pretty reliable too. And I respect your choice(nothing really wrong with it). My point is that Toyota made these hybrid systems robust and surprisingly easy to work on. They are not such a big mystery once you take time to get to know them. One more thing: the RX is nicer than comparible Cadillacs. Hard to go wrong with them if you can afford them. The NX is the aspiring little brother, destined for good things.
@kellingtonlink956
@kellingtonlink956 Жыл бұрын
Clearly, you know what you are talking about. A rare thing to see these days. Your points are well taken. The 3.5L is not perfect, nor that transmission (boring). The front seal was susceptible to leak. I’ve heard that that is an Engine Out job! Insane! But in most cases it is worth doing the repair. Not my years, but later years of the 911 have that IMS Bearing problem. Though catastrophic if overlooked… I’d still recommend the Porsche. I’d NEVER recommend an E38 (BMW 740i w/M-Sport pkg)… but that had to be my favourite car to own and DRIVE (bought at 140 kms - sold at 287,000 kms). If you cannot work on OR don’t know where to get great work done OR cannot afford the occasional 4 figure bill… I would always recommend any of the Lexus/Toyotas. For a 2nd/3rd car to go cottaging, long distance trips (+5 hours), I don’t need fun. I want, primarily, isolation and peace of mind… that is where the RX fits. Plus it doesn’t need to attract attention (including the police/radar). Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Cheers.

I'm having this tough battle as we speak but I'd probably be talking Rx350 non hybrid vs NX350h. When you talk about road noise / cabin noise different from the two, could you put a put a percentage difference on how much quieter you think the rx is to the nx? It's kind of getting repetitive with car reviewers focusing on hybrids and top trims only. I cannot stand them because you are forced into a cvt, higher price, a expensive battery pack you need to replace and to be honest the vast buying public is still buying predominantly non hybrid versions yet I see constant reviews of hybrid or upper trims. We keep our vehicles for fifteen plus years so the less complicated the better. For us the Lexus NX250 with the standard rav 4 power train is what we want but again reviewers only seem to focus on hybrid or top trims like the NX350. I drove a 250 and it honestly has all the power we want plus I bet you could get in the low 30's mpg depending on how you drive. I know Canada seems to be forced into top trims only which is a bummer.
