It’s amazing how a car that received endless praise in 2016, still garners that same compliments 9 years later with just an update good job Volvo . 3 Xc90s and all these years later keep it up

It's a testament to good design when a car that was originally introduced in 2016 still looks fresher and better than competitors in 2025 with some tweaks. I have a 2019 V90 T6 Cross Country and have been thinking about upgrading to an XC90... this update makes it a lot more tempting! To those that are scared of Volvo's perceived reliability: I've never had any issues with my car, just regular maintenance at the Volvo dealer. Will definitely be a repeat buyer.

I forgot that 2016 was when that was designed like that. Even in 2024 it looks so modern. I love Volvo for that

I own a 2021 V90 T8 and am also tempted, also because I have the older electric motor with less power and range. I can vouch for reliability. Not a single issue in three years, no rattles, the B&W sound system is the best I’ve heard (and I’m an audiophile)… I like it better than the Burmester system I heard in a Porsche Panamera.

About this 2025, Car and Driver says “We'd be quick to dismiss this mild overhaul as too little, too late if the XC90 weren't so good to begin with. We still prefer it over many newer competitors.”

Any particular reason you're considering switching from V90 to XC90? I have an XC90 Inscription, and I'm thinking about going to a V90CC when it's time. 😊

@ I like the higher seating position and the extra storage. When I bought my V90 I didn’t have the budget, but next year I might. I also feel that the B&W sound system’s acoustical performance benefits from the larger space.

T8 PHEV is a no brainer, more refined driving in EV mode, and saves lots $$$ in gas. I drive a 2022 T8, and only refuels twice a year, saves thousands in gas, and still more resale value than B5.

The Consumers Report on the Volvo XC90 does not look good at all. If it's been around since 2016, then it should be fully sorted and yet the reliability remains middling (or worse) on this model. Nice looking truck though, gotta say. And being built in Gothenburg (for now) too!
@billurban15812 күн бұрын
Consumer reports uses subscribers, reports, JD power uses verified owners. 2. Reliability is often loosely defined. No one is measuring how many times a car left you stranded, which is the ultimate reliability question. 3. IF YOU DO THE MATH, and leaving aside anecdotes, JD power says a Volvo is likely to have one more issue than “the reliability leader” Lexus, in the third year ownership. Much ado about not much.
@cbotten106Күн бұрын
@@billurban1581 Yes, both methodologies have their limitations. And problems with your wifi hotspot connectivity isn't the same as stalling out intermittently on the freeway, that's for sure. J.D. Powers need to generate income from the companies they rate, unfortunately, it leads to things like APEAL ratings and other nonsense that undermines the value of all their work. How a new car owner "feels" about their car isn't really of value to me. Moreover, they generally end up bass ackwards to the reality of the overall ownership experience.

@jeffer11013 күн бұрын
I wouldn't use this as an example of a reliable simple hybrid. Just look at the Toyota examples for that. No idea why Volvo would use a turbo, supercharger and hybrid system all combined. Seems overly complex and will likely be a money pit after 5 years. Toyota's system is designed for efficiency and great fuel economy. This Volvo is just trying to grab the hybrid name so customers think they are saving the planet when in reality, this doesn't really get that much better fuel economy than other non-hybrid comparable vehicles.

I'm a Volvo xc90 fan, wish we got v6 in the US. Regarding the refresh, I like the previous front end it has a more chiseled look, this new front end seems more homogenized as it now looks more like everyone else... seems like Volvo is following not leading on design with this refresh... on that note i wish they also didn't affix what looks like an iPad onto the dash, it is not well integrated...

If you round off the JD Power 2024 reliability survey results, a Volvo is likely to have one more reliability issue (2) than the reliability leader Lexus (1), in the third year of ownership. In that survey, Volvo scored better than Volkswagen, Audi, and Tesla.

Volvo doesn't offer Android Auto in conjunction with its Android-based operating system because the functions of Android Auto are already built into the car. Great review but not excited by a 4cyl in midsized SUV. Deal breaker for me plus 3rd row is not usable. Would love it more w/o 3rd row.
@billurban1581Күн бұрын
You might be right to worry about four cylinders / 2 litres except, in this case, the electric motor more than makes up for it. 523 lb ft is quite a bit of twist . . . (compare, it is rated to pull 5,000 lbs). The motor actually delivers 445 lb ft to the rear wheels before that four-cylinder knows you put your foot down. And during the whole process, measurably less stress on those four-cylinders. Fold the third row down, 65 ft.³ behind the second row.

Another commenter referred to “more refined driving in EV MODE.” This is due to the ability to deliver 445 lb ft* to the rear wheels on demand, more than enough in normal stop and go. *Dyno test.

For anyone looking at this car, I own a 2016 XC90 T6 Inscription and there is hardly any difference between mine and this new one. If you choose to buy a preowned XC90, you'll be missing hardly anything and saving tens of thousands of dollars. Don't let the difference in infotainment fool you, there is no difference in functionality, only the way it looks; and the driver display is far superior in the older model with cool themes you can select. Mine also has the Bowers & Wilkins sound system and it's identical to this one. Don't waste your money. You're getting nothing extra special with this new XC90. My 2016 XC90 is selling on the market for only $20k CAD. So unless you really think the new looks is worth $80k more, do yourself a favour and check the preowned ones. Thank me later.
