Thanks so much for this. A decade later, Motorola TVs would become Quasar, with no mention of Motorola.

Not really true. "Quasar, by Motorola" was introduced in 1967 (2 years after this). Quasar was a sub-brand that was used on Motorola's solid state sets. It was shortened to Quasar when Motorola sold their consumer electronics division to Matsushita Electric (Panasonic) in 1974.

When Quasar came out, could one buy just a Motorola TV or was Quasar part of the deal? I knew that Motorola sold the TV business to Matsushita Electric in 1974. It was May 28, to be exact, because, in 1980, I wrote a letter to Motorola asking them about it. So, any Motorola TV in existence is over 50 years old. Posting 6-25-24.

@@TheBrooklynbodine I know that there were Motorola branded sets that were 90% solid state up until at least 1971 that did not carry the Quasar label.

OK, thanks. In later years, I'd guess that Motorola and Quasar were one and the same. I don't think Quasar is made anymore, either.

In black and white, that makes sense. Not as much color sets then.

As someone who knows a lot about TV history, this is something I didn't know: so there was a time where B/W picture tubes had become more rectangular but the color sets still had to be round? Did I interpret this correctly? If so I had no idea
