Hey Allen! Question for you - why would you want to cycle between high and low power? Why not just stay high? I’m not a ham op. But am an EMT and handle all the radios stuff for my dept. Also - you’re the only channel that’s ever been helpful. You break things down AMAZINGLY

The main reason I use low power is when your on scene with a bunch of other vehicles on or near the same frequency. If everyone is using Motorola it may not be an issue, but if they're running a lower grade system then you could desensitize their receiver. Basically this means you could be right next to each other and they wouldn't be able to hear you. The other, slightly funnier reason is drive thru restaurants and ATM's some of their systems may not have adequate RF shielding and you could interfere or even damage their equipment. I personally have unintentionally destroyed a digital menu at a drive thru. Thanks for the kind words and thanks for watching.

once the operator has enough signal for full quieting into the repeater anything above that is simply wasted signal and may damage nearby equipment. Analogous to shouting at someone when talking in a normal voice is sufficient.

Just got an uhf 50w xtl2500 for Gmrs. Used these in public service on 800 MHz and thought they were great radios. Using the zone function for simplex vs local repeaters vs distant repeaters. Much faster scanning than the budget imports. Am using the power high/low button for long winded conversations I can switch to low transmit power and not heat up the radios as quickly (heat can destroy electronics).

Hi Alan. Any advice on selecting the correction option for the following. On an XTL 2500 in non-scan mode, the channel is closed to any unaffiliated radio traffic? When I enable scan, the channel opens up and I hear all unaffiliated radio traffic.

Can you get the "Depot Option" function in your CPS or do you have to buy it from Motorola? I have CPS R20.01.00 but no Depot button.

Hey man, I followed your video on programming the Motorola XTL 2500. Im trying to reprogram my radio to show the SCAN feature on the radio screen. In the Motorola CTS software, I selected scan along with three other items I want on the screen. SCAN doesn’t show on my radio screen, but the other functions do. I don’t need to adjust any trunking, just want to add the SCAN. Could you help me out with this?
@Standing-Wave
@Standing-Wave Жыл бұрын
Okay, please verify the following in CPS: (This applies to Non-Astro scanning) 1-A scan list is created with the desired Zones and Channels added. 2-The scan list has it's "Scan Type" set to "Conventional". 3-The desired scan list is selected in the "Scan" tab in the Conventional Personality menu for the Personality in question. 4- Under the "Display & Menu" menu click on the "Menu Items" tab, make sure "SCAN" is listed in the "Selected Items" area for "Conventional Menu Items". Also, you may want to try moving the "SCAN" in the "Selected Menu Items" to the top of the list, if the above does not work. If you are still having issues I can make a video specifically on scanning. Hope this helps.

Just received a QTS UHF high power version and wondering if I have to have a control head connected in order to program it or can I use the red port for programming. I have programmed many XTL 5000's but always from the control head mic port (lower power units). Thanks.

How do you program 700 mhz rx frequencies from CHP as a scanner? My XTL won't take them? Even when I set the TX offset first in NB?

Two questions; 1) Can you adjust Squelch level in the Menu via Navigation 4 way button? This would do away with the need for using one of the soft keys as 'Squelch level'. 2) Is there a 'Talk around' or 'Repeater defeat' function available for the soft keys? I have just purchased one of this units for use on the UHF CRS Band here in Australia and we use these functions often. Cheers from Melbourne Australia.
@Standing-Wave
@Standing-Wave Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question, to answer your first question; unfortunately no, you must set a soft button to "SQL" then once that button is pressed, you are allowed to use the left and right buttons to adjust the squelch level or use soft buttons to do the adjusting. But you will always need to initially access the squelch menu via a soft button. To answer your second question; Yes there is. First you will need to go to the "Display & Menu" menu in the tree view. Then in the "Conventional Menu Items" area find "DIR" and add that to the "Selected Items" field. Next find the Zone the channel in question is in. In the "Channels" tab find the channel you want to add the repeater defeat to and scroll all the way to the right. You will see a column labeled "TA Direct/Talkaround" make sure the check box is checked. Also take a moment to make sure the Talkaround(Repeater Defeat) frequency, Squelch type, and PL tone(If applicable) are correct. These setting should match all radios that you wish to use this feature with. NOTE: the first time you power on the radio after programming, the channel(s) that have this feature enabled will be in "Direct" mode(Repeater Defeat). You must switch them back into "Repeater Mode" using the soft button you set up. Once that is done, the radio will remember the last set state for each channel. So the next time you turn the radio on, it will be in whatever mode you left it in. I hope the helps! Have a great day!

@@Standing-Wave Oh ok, thats fine. Be nice if there were more soft keys. 'DIR' for talk around. So I only need 1 Zone of 80 channels, I'll label it 'UHF'. Great help and excellent video mate. Cheers.

Hi from Melbourne, radio capital of Australia. Can you assist me with programming options on my XTL2500? Is it possible to program CTCSS Tones in Conventional mode/zone? I need to use them on 1 particular UHF CB Channel here which we use as our group channel. I believe the standard CTCSS list comprises 50 tones. Cheers. Gary.

Finally received a programming cable however program does not see the radio. Followed directions but no luck. Went to devices and I do not see any USB device recognized by system. Running program on Acer Aspire E15 with Windows 8.1. Even tried plugging the usb cable only on an older XP machine but it does not recognize the cable.

Why are the scan lists limited to 15 like the HTs? It's not like your dial is only 16 positions....so why can't you scan more than 15 channels?
@Standing-Wave
@Standing-Wave Жыл бұрын
My guess is to keep the scan cycle time low. Thus reducing the likelihood of missing a communication. The more channels you have in a single list, the longer it takes to scan the entire list. Especially if you have priority channels set up.
