I've stumbled into your video set from the engineering side. Even though engineering goes into the math, your description of how these motors work is more clear and practical. Bravo!

Thank you! I teach mechanics and I want to make sure that they understand how things work. I tell them in class if I can get you to understand how things work you can definitely figure out how to fix them. Where are used to work we used to teach the math that goes along with motors and the electrical side, but a lot of these guys out here do not need the math, they need to understand so they can fix things! Thank you for watching!!!

Sounds like the engine wants something to turn it off if it 'single phases'. Another fine video - thanks!

How do I verify the 3 phase that is right direction?
@AirConAcademy3 жыл бұрын
There are meters that are made they will help you figure out if the polarity is correct. With those meters you can tell which way is the correct way of hooking up the leads. If you are working on a reciprocating compressor it will not make any difference in which direction it is rotating. If you are working on a fan you can look at the fan once you start it up and you will be able to tell if it is rotating in the correct direction or not. If you are working on a unit that has a scroll compressor, they will usually come with a face monitor and or you can just look at the fan if you are connecting the wires at the main feed/disconnect. I hope this answers your question.

How will I understand my motor is single phasing?
@AirConAcademy3 жыл бұрын
If you have a three phase motor and it is already rotating you will have no amperage on one of the three hot wires, and the amperage will be higher in the other two wires. If the motor is not running and you only have two wires that have power on them the motor will just sit there at hum but it will not operate. You will most likely pull (LRA) lock rotor amps. I hope this explains your question.
