I was invited by DRVN Advanced Engineering in Coventry, home of Boreham Motorworks and the NEW Mk1 Escort RS to see why it is £300,000. What they showed me was amazing. Let me know your thoughts? *EDIT* As a continuation build, the Mk1 RS DOES NOT need to meet the Pedestrian impact REGs, figures are for the new RS200 build.

Not really. Just reporting on a motor for the masses...just one that's been upgraded and costs more this time round. I did the Capri, that is a motor for the masses but starts at £50k. The Mustang Mach e a motor for the masses....but that is £75k. It's ok sometimes to do the expensive ones. Back to the normal priced stuff soon enough.

Great video and insight thanks , I absolutely love all the hype about this car! I was saving and rebuilding Mk1 escorts over 40 years ago when people were criticising me for wasting my time! But I’d never have another now because too many people have jumped on the bandwagon! Iv just finished building a Sierra Sapphire Cosworth 4x4 , let’s hope they never become available again because it’s always been about Built Not Bought for me! 😎👍

Going back in time (54yrs ago) to the Mk1 Escort. I bought a Mk1 Type 49 (Twin cam) shell painted ermine white with bonnet, boot, and doors from FMC; delivered to my Mum and dads house in Dartford for £200! Should have bought a few more but I was earning £21 a week at the time. £295k, I did think about it but thought 120k would make me consider but..... That car I built won with my trusty navigator Jim; all 12 southeast road rallies in 1976 an various other events around the country Built by me for a total of £700. Then in 1976 bought a trimmed Mk11 shell from FMC for £2k. still can't see the 295k and that car won the up to 1600cc GP2 class in the 24hs of Ypres. Just memories now but glad I did it. When did it all go wrong? my guess the advent of the internet! I imagine those who buy the new one will lock it away and will never see a stage forest rally. PS in Northern Ireland; Frank Kelly (super star with his daughter) has a Mk11 Escort and after a bad crash he went to a workshop for parts and there was atleast half a dozen Mk11 shells sitting in the corner!! Who makes them?

Where I agree the price is very much "WHHAAAAAT?" It would be impossible to make the same car, or even a newer version to those measurements and spec whilst adhering to modern 'safety' requirements. To make them, they cannot go mainstream , but whilst trying to be as modern as they are able to make it...then comes the price when the units are so small. It is a bitter sweet moment.

Ridiculous. I understand the costs of tooling up and development to build these cars but no way would I spend £300k on one. My very early MK1 NUT327F from the first 6 months of production, cost me £100 in 1989 and ended up with a 1760 crossflow, four link rear and 2.8i Capri brakes and was great fun but nope. If I had £300k going spare I'd buy a new 911 Targa, a £10k Bentley GT as a daily hack and chuck the rest into a house and be as happy as a pig in shit.
