Ive never seen a car crash so badly that it skips a whole section on the track, yet sasahara did it and he only walked away with a concussion. Unbelievable

Yeah. I was watching that live and I'd say it's second only to Grosjean's 2020 F1 fireball for crashes I've seen in the last few years where I was pretty sure the driver was not going to be getting away without serious injuries or worse.

Japanese racing series had a rough year with crashes from the super formula, to the super gt crash at Suzuka. Even f4 had a scary moment at Autopolis. Btw I dont know if u could count Ole Petersens crash in danish super gt as a split car but only half the car was left 😬

Yeah it was an odd year. Most of the time races went without incident (the Fuji 450km went without even an FCY), but when there were incidents they were massive.

Wouldnt consider petersens crash a split car crash, the part that detached from the car was mainly bodywork. Roll cage and internal components of the car were still there, but it sure was a massive impact

its done on purpose, if the car splits in half, more energy is dispersed and the drivers get less hurt. sadly, it costs much more for the teams and the drivers

find fan view of the Sasahara crash in Super formula you can see the car fly over the barrier and almost onto a different part of the track
