Keeping a decent gap is the key but it's a skill that needs to be mastered. Most, and by that I mean 95%+ simply haven't mastered it. They can't even judge the pace of the vehicle in front when they're sitting on its tail let alone when at a good gaps worth. And the 2 second rule doesn't help. It's the primary reason for traffic grinding to a halt on an otherwise obstacle free stretch of road. It's been scientifically proven too. They got a bunch of motorists to drive round and round in a large circle without stopping, and they couldn't do it. There's videos on this platform showing it and it's quite fascinating to observe. No one has seen Jack. But I know we will meet again 😂 I will certainly look at these vids that sounds super interesting to see visually. I think you are on the money it’s the strangest phenomenon and must be down to poor gap judgement.

I don't know why it is but so many drivers will not move to the inside lane. A major cause of congestion, impatience and road rage. I don't know if it's selfishness, laziness or just being awkward but ntil the police start to take action, the problem will continue.

Not UK but in Ireland it's much the same... There's certain roads which seem to be particularly bad for incorrect lane usage too. The N/M7 from where it joins the M50 in Dublin to the junction at Newbridge is 3 lanes for 32km, and there's been many a time where I can sit at the speed limit on cruise control in lane 1 while passing 90% of traffic in lanes 2 and 3. There's times when you join the road and can see that there's nothing in lane 1 for at least the next kilometer, but people seem deathly afraid of it of it for some reason. Callback to your video on speed changes too, because on the N/M7, it goes from 120km/h to 100km/h to 80km/h the closer you get to Dublin, and people will sit at 100km/h the whole way through and then stand on the brakes when they get to the M50 junction because the flyover drops to 40km/h. The N/M4 is literally the next junction on the M50, and doesn't seem to have the same problems at all despite going to 2 lanes much quicker...

Strange phenomenon with the N/M4. On your earlier point seems to be connected both issues speed and lane etc.
