I had a 1986 CRX for high school and college and LOVED that car! I held on to that car for as long as I could but after my second engine went bad and after being married and having a kid I could not justify putting more money into it. It was a very sadly day when I had to let that car go. :( Now, years later I am back in the Honda family with a 2019 Honda Civic Type R! :) Even with how good that CRX was the new Type R performs better than I could have ever imagined back when I had the CRX and it even has a usable back seat for family drives with my teenager. In many ways I feel like the Civic grew up with me and became more practical while also being one of the best performing cars out there. Well done Honda. Well done.

Look at that...another OVER 50MPG car....and it aint a Prius! Makes you think....why arent they able to get 100mpg NOW, after all these years, from a plain ol' gas powered car. Or keep the 50MPG on todays cars. Without using batteries, hybrid systems, and paying $40K! Because they stuff them with so much crap, all those little motors to move all those little 'luxuries' weigh a lot, added up! It drains away any mileage increase they could get out of most cars. Car makers think Americans are to lazy to turn their head around, so they need a back up camera, to lazy to move their seats, so they must be powered, along with the windows, door locks, auto start, and 20 airbags! Get rid of all that crap, the price of the car drops, the mileage goes up, and guess what, you have to learn to DRIVE a car! We are going to end up with a generation of 'drivers' that cant DRIVE a car, they expect it to drive them.
@bwzffgh77 жыл бұрын
A non-hybrid could get over 50 MPG easily today, Marc B, IF they were allowed to build one that only weighed the CRX's 1800 lbs. Modern engines are FAR more efficient than anything available in 1986, but with modern safety requirements, it's impossible to get a production car with these dimensions down to that weight. The government just won't allow a car like the CRX to be made anymore.

Great thing was no one got hurt and the man driving admitted he was at fault. Even though I could have; I didn't sue and just took my car's value from his insurance company.

If I took it across country, it EASILY got me 49-53 mpg! WHY can't we manage that today!?!? (Even Hybrids don't match that!?) ... Sadly, it started to rust away and I wasn't able to do or afford the repairs to the body. I am SURE it would still be driving today if it handn't rusted. (Midwest/SNOW and SALT!). Where do you live? Plentiful here. Too bad every single one has 20 inch chrome rims and horribly done matte paint. So I have to be content with 2nd Gen crx's.

Would like to add a request Motorweek.... was there a Nissan NX2000 review? Was my first car, and what a first car! Shifting at 7500 never got old. It did pretty well on Main Street!

I feel like for the $ there was an amazing array of options and brands unlike today

I understand how you say Paint looks Underdone ….. But.... After a few looks, its perfectly fine & allows the body to take more attention rather than extra unnessesary paint trimmings. As for the seats, They were perfect imo. Very Very comfortable. The firmness adds support also longevity. My ONLY complaint, The Only one …… Is I wish it had just a slight bit lower to the ground stance. Maybe an inch -1.5" lower, From the factory , Not saying it needs to be a Low rid3er, id just prefer it sat 1" lower is all.

if they built these again they would sell, sell, sell...the crx/civic si are some of the greatest cars ever built. i never thought i'd ever say that but these things really run

+Pan tera its impossible, even if they wanted to. Now there's so much expensive safety equipment and crash test standards that need to be met. id say closest thing we will ever get is the scion frs
@403Pantera19 жыл бұрын
04dram04 this is why newer cars do not interest me, the loss of character and felling of being connected to the road. i'm no pro driver or anything, but even older civic sedans are damn fine driving cars i've owned a 6th generation and own a 7th generation currently. i NEVER thought i'd love these old hondas, but as weak as some are they ARE a driver's car.

The host really had a thing for oil pressure and voltage gauges. He pretty much says that in every video from the 80s.

Since you just uploaded the CRX Si, could you also please post the tests of the original '84 CRX & Civic wagon in the future? I would also love to see the tests of the '86 H-bodies (LeSabre/Delta 88) that John referenced in the beginning.
