John you're bouncing around and can't pick a line and where are the AZBDR vids? Thanks for sharing.
@JohnTYoung4 жыл бұрын
I mostly took pictures on the AZBDR. Too hot to stop and honestly,... let me rephrase that... I honestly did not want to stop moving unless I was in an air conditioned restaurant, hotel room, or pool. It was the first trip I've ever been on where I didn't camp at all. 110 degrees. I was suffering a little, and my best ideas for video came to me long after the moment had passed. Having said that, Bisbee was beautiful, and I did a little shoot there. The Canyon was amazing as always. The black sands were soooo much fun but soooo tiring. There were a few other spots I'd love to go back to and video... in January.

i’ve run the extreme hybrid on my 690.. very good traction and decent mileage.. the rear was very finicky w/tire pressure. i found 18 psi (less in tough stuff) to be a decent all around pressure.. maybe 20 for extended pavement.. anything more than that was especially sketchy on pavement- compounded by the tall profile which changes bike handling.. i was hoping the rallz would be great. they started off promising but burned up/lost traction quickly, and the front developed a wicked hop unlike anything i’ve ever experienced. so far, my favorite all around tire has been the goldentyre gt723.. exceptional traction everywhere, and great wear. difficult to find sometimes, but the most predictable, balanced tire i’ve come across. i’d definitely recommend giving them a try.

I've only got a few miles on the Xtremes so far but yes, they are a little squirmy. We'll see. I leave for the UTBDR next week. Love the Rallzs, but ya, my front tire ended it's life by turning into a kangroo. But before that, I loved them. I will give the Goldentyre a try. My goal is to try every and all dual sport / ADV tires. Thanks for the advice!
@revoltmachine54674 жыл бұрын
John T. Young i’ve tried quite a few.. the gt723 are the only ones that have never tried to kill me! the only tires that never made me think about tires... in a pinch i’d would run d606 or mt21 again if it was mostly off road and mileage wasn’t much of a concern. and for a lot of street and moderate off road, i actually love the dirt cheap shinko 244! most hated tire ever- tkc80. maybe they work better on big bikes, but can’t for the life of me figure out why anyone likes em!

I have good luck with the mountain hybrids on decomposed granite fire roads and trails. They are good on pavement. Incredible traction climbing in rock and hard pack, even when topped with dust and some gravel. Perfect for the road in this video. They don't dig in loam like a knobby. So aggressive dirt riders may not love them. They don't paddle in sand and mud. They will float OK at lower pressures, with good throttle control.. And they clear mud decently from the tread. So they will get through soft sections. But they don't excel there. Good tread life. Good for dual sport. Its very important to get the pressure right. I run the rear 0 to 8 PSI on a 500 Beta with Tubliss. Maybe 10 PSI on the highway. I imagine the extremes will be a little more aggressive in softer terrain at the expense of tread life.

Hey John Im currently running the Motoz Tractionator Enduro I/T's but I'm realizing that they are very loud on the highway. The front is good but the rear just howls. Ive tried D606 and Mt21 rear and they were both better on road. I'd like to try something different on the rear, have you tried the mountain hybrid ? How does it compare to the RallZ?
@JohnTYoung3 жыл бұрын
There's a great chart on Adventure Spec on what each tire is good or OK for that I've found very accurate. There's no magic formula, the more rubber and less space between the knobs, the better for the road, worse for the dirt, and quieter. I really like the Mountain Hybrid for all things hard - roads, hard packed dirt, rocks. The RallZ is better in the dirt and gravel but is a decent road tire. Both last a long time. I know you want it all but the perfect unicorn tire does not exist. Pick the terrain you NEED it to work in (dirt for me) and how long you need it to last for (1,000 or so miles) and go from there.
@Sk8ter-Dad3 жыл бұрын
@@JohnTYoung yeah I think I'm leaning towards the Rallz as it can get pretty wet and loamy here in BC. In one ride I'll see everything from road, rocks, sand, mud, water crossings and dirt. You should try the Enduro I/T up front I think you'd really like it! I've heard lots of people running it with the Rallz or desert HT in the back. Thanks

Hey John. Love your channel. What an unbelievable resource you are for dual sport riders. And especially for crf450l riders. Honda should give you a new bike every few years for the work you are doing for us and for them. There has to be a lot of people who went red after watching your channel and also realizing how much how to info and help you provide for the community. Thanks. Now a quick question. What tire setup do you recommend for north East Riding?
@JohnTYoung3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jamie. It's not so much about the "North East" as it is about what you're planning to ride on - dirt single track, pavement, rocks and roots, gravel roads, etc... And them how much is going to be dirt and how much road. That's a lot of stuff to take into consideration before you even get to "which tire". So not knowing anything about any of that I can't even begin to recommend a tire. In general, the farther apart the knobs, the better the tire does in loose conditions, the worse it will do on the road, and the faster it will wear out.
@jdavishornet3 жыл бұрын
@@JohnTYoung thanks for replying. I plan on riding 90 10 off road to road. But there is not really a lot of sandy type of terrain in north east that I’m aware of. Thinking a lot of rocky muddy sloppy stuff. Mostly damp woods riding I’d think. Guess I won’t be sure till I get out there. Was thinking tractionator desert at first but now not so sure after watching your video on that one. Thanks again.
@JohnTYoung3 жыл бұрын
@@jdavishornet I wouldn't use the Desert HT anywhere but in the desert. The rubber does not like wet anything. If you're 90 off road and don't care about road noise the Enduro IT is a great tire.
