And terribly overproduced on their albums, the only one that captured the essence of their music was Mott The Hoople Live.

way ahead of their time! The world was not ready for Mott the Hoople. They were completely groundbreaking and everyone that followed was a me-too band. the inventors of what is now termed glam-rock. I saw Ian Hunter in NH when he was my mothers age - 82, and he rocked the house!

Pick up MTH live released as a 2 cd set "74 set from London and '73 from Broadway. They kicked ass! Mostly different sets. Buffin and Overend Watts were so tight. Buffin plays a double kick so smooth.

Any band on any given night is the greatest band of all time! Mott had many given nights. Sloppy, dissonant, at time acrimonious to each other and the crowd, aggressive, Glorious. Magnificent. Chaos. And then Ian Hunter would sing a ballad that would cut your heart open. Hunter is turning 81 (!) next month. And still writing , still recording. A mighty long way down Rock n Roll for all of us! Ya know.....I still got a little fight in me yet! 😎

Mick Ralphs hogging the darkness rather than the limelight, as always! The guy has zero ego. :)

@@MrGoodtogo55 in the early days it was definitely Mick driving the band though. And undoubtedly there was tension in that power shift. Still I wish they could have worked it out...agree MTH is far superior to Bad Co. That is Mick Ralph's of Bad Company on guitar. These guys rocked the hell out of it. Might have been a bit sloppy and out of tune but that's how it was back then. Not a lot of tuning up and tuners in those days. Usually they used one instrument instead of changing after each song. Really enjoyed this live version. I bought the Rock and Roll Queen studio album in the 70's. Still have the vinyl. Maybe I'll spin it tonight. Rock on!!!

@rathert34 жыл бұрын
@@selewachm Free didn't do "Ready For Love". Mick Ralphs wrote it. Mott The Hoople did it, then Bad Company did. Paul Rogers of Free was Bad Company's vocalist, so that's probably why you were thinking they did the song, but Mick Ralphs didn't write it until 1972 for the "All The Young Dudes" album.
