It's a quietly brilliant touch that communicates, especially with other scenes he has with people about if Adam should be able to transform without the sword or not, how terrified he remains that there's something Adam knows he doesn't.

I honestly thought the sword was gonna be revealed as a limiter that kept Adam from being too powerful and that he'd pop off here with god tier abilities he never displayed before but it turned out the sword was refiner and he needed it to maintain his intelligence and control.

The fact these kind of scenes exist is a proof the show has a big potential, animators know how to make something epic, the music is great too. It's not perfect but the original show wasn't perfect either. It was almost a cartoon at some point where everything was possible.

Berserker heman isn't bound by eternian laws of mercy or compassion for his enemies (which is why the sword was the conduit to control the savagery of the power inside Adam) which is why even in skelegod form and all the power that came with it, skeletor couldn't stop him. Berserker heman had only one goal on his irrational mind and that was to kill skeletor and destroy anything that stood in his way to get to him.

I was actually about to rip this scene but you do have a point. Kevin Smith didn't do a bad job but I think he kind of misunderstood the assignment. If someone says here is a Gotham show I think people are going to expect it to star Batman. Hell look at Smallville. It was a huge change but at least it kept perspective which character is the main character. I love Smallville by the way. I find Clark much more interesting than solo Superman. Superman on Justice League, that's Superman.
@digitaladventurer2142
@digitaladventurer2142 11 ай бұрын
that's overthinking it. Its just without the sword Adam has no control and the raw power takes over. Skelegod isn't bound by those laws either its just Skeletor is evil to being with.

@@digitaladventurer2142that's the sum of it, I was only giving details to the people who wouldn't understand your version (which I agree with) however, if you read the comics you would know that Eternia did have certain laws about compassion for one's enemies (given specific circumstances) otherwise he-man had the power to kill skelator anytime he wished because skelator wasn't nearly as strong or powerful otherwise. Just sayin, and thanks.

People today dont know but Savage HE-MAN is a reference to OOLAR,who was THE REAL original HE-MAN back during the original vintage toys and mini comics there was no Prince Adam,it was only HE-MAN and he was a wondering barbarian. Im so happy they actually referenced that,especially when he used the Axe because HE-MAN'S main weapon of choice was originally a battle axe.

To me the way I would do Savage He-man in My he-man reboot if for when Adam says the words by the spirit of greyskull and when his powers come to him he end up becoming a Greyskull/He-man like form and him saying the final words I am its powers after horde prime would take both his and adora swords and becoming Hor-god

The whole franchise was based on Conan the Barbarian. Then they switched to Kull of Valusia, another Barbarian King that R.E. Howard wrote before the most famous Conan, a Barbarian King that used to be a slave, then became a powerful king with a battleaxe instead of a scepter and fought some evil Serpent-Men. The aforementioned Serpent-Men carried over to Conan, and there's a story that Howard wrote for Kull and then remade for Conan in which a kind wizard grants Kull a temporary magic sword that can slay the Serpent-Men to survive an attempt to his life. Much later, when someone in the 90s got the rights to do a toon adaptation of Conan, Conan received a "Starmetal Sword" with the power to "Banish the Evil Serpentmen back to another dimension" (as in a Saturday Morning toon the hero can't kill evil dudes, but he can banish/vanquish/humiliate them). Back in the 80s, they first tried to to make some figurines of Conan the Barbarian, then Kull fighting the Serpent Men and the Skull-Faced wizards (another common enemy in Kull's stories: Atlantean Wizards who mummified themselves becoming Liches to return centuries later and raze kingdoms to the ground). Then, Kull was vetoed and they retooled again the "Barbarian figure" into He-Man, fighting the Serpent-men and Skeletor, and introduced a "Goddess", initially a Serpentlady with green skin and a Cobra headpiece (who later become part of the "Trisorceress" in the Revolution part), then a Falcon-garbed sorceress. The very first He-Man, as you told, carried the scepter/axe thing of Kull and fought with Skeletor to reunite both parts of a "Sword of Power" that would spell the absolute victory for whoever got it first, with Skeletor and He-Men competing for it. That He-Man became Oolar the Barbarian, and as the toys had to become more palatable for kids, the "Sword of Power" became a now reunited (there are still original toys in which the Sword "splits in half") artifact granting Prince Adam his "Fabolous secret powers", the toyline was split into the Evil Warriors and the Heroic Warriors (with some neutral forces as the Godlike Moss Man and the Guardian of all Balance Zodac sold with the Heroic and Evil label just because they had no "inbetween labels") and every character got his or her current incarnation. Oolar was still described as one of the inhabitants of Preternia, the Eternian Paradise where ancient heroes dwell

Well, every single Champion has "the Power of Greyskull", so inside He-Man there's the same power that used to dwell in D'Vor Greyskull (King Greyskull), Oo-Lar the Barbarian (the "Savage He-Man"), He-Ro (Greyskull's second born, the forger of the Sword, in the toyline just "another champion") and all the fancy musclebound guys (plus Kuduk, the musclebound Sorceress unable to speak modern Eternian and resorting to let the older Champions translate the Ancient Language for her) in Preternia. The whole "spell" (in the Filmation series it was needed: in Eteria once Hordak unknowingly managed to put She-Ra out of commission for days by simply getting the Shadow Weaver to turn Adora and some rebel into mutes: so no magic spell, no powers: no matter how much you just keep waving the Sword of Power/Sword of Protection in the air thinking how much you'd like for it to work) has two parts: "For the Power of Greyskull" and "I have the Power". If you don't use the Sword, the power gets to control you and you get all the rage, righteousnness but also savagery of generations of champions roaming in your soul pushing you to blindly charge againt Evil

This show was originally advertised (by Kevin Smith) as a direct continuation of the 1980s show. this is yet one of many examples it clearly isn't set in the same universe. In the original series, if He-man calls for the power of Grayskull while not holding the sword, the energy still goes to the sword, not him. In one episode he shocked a villain this way. the villain held the sword and the power went to him, not turning into ''skelegod'' but rather just shocking the villain (forcing him to drop the sword)

Everyone keep putting things on Kevin but he is just the guy who knows how to make a coherent Movie or TV show. The real guys behind the lore of the show are Ted Biacelli and Rob David. Rob and Ted were also behind the CGI Show on Netflix. Both Ted and Rob wanted to use All of Motu History for this show not just the Filmation Cartoon. You'll find stuff from the Mini-Comics, the Golden Books and even the Movie in this. Hell Gwildor will be in Revolution for crying out loud.

@@Fenris30i am going to explain this to you one more time, the reason why they put it on kevin smith is because it was his idea to kill He-Man. This isn't something that he hid, in fact it is the opposite. He is proud of the fact that he changed the story from Adam being alive to him killing him. Than he took to social media to argue with people who said he would be sidelined/step aside ( they are synonyms) his tweets are still up, than he did an interview with Geeky Jerseys in which he out right says that he knew from the beginning that He-Man would be sidelined. He-Man wasn't killed to preserve his character like you love to go around telling people.

Let´s be honest... Between the original mini-comics, comics and the tv-show.... There is enough gaps lore wise to explain pretty much anything... There was never a idea of a grander universe in that way... It was just enough story to sell cheaply made plastic toys.

You're absolutely correct without the sword of power it is impossible for Prince Adam to become He-Man you can call power all day but that's like you have a key for a car and without gas it's not going to do nothing a person can turn the engine all day they want to but without gas to get it going it is useless The episode you are referring to where he shocked the person was in the episode of the original series is Orko's missing magic

I never considered this a actual continuation of the series because there is a lot of places it does not add up with it but it isn't you don't kill off your main character just to bring them back like they did with Optimus Prime kill a character off and then bring them back

I wonder how Lion-O, Lord of The Thundercats would handle a Savage He-Man. I will bet he will call upon The Sword Of Omens to grant him Power Beyond Power to be equal in strength like he did in the crossover comic of He-Man/Thundercats after he resurrected He-Man in one of Mum-Ra's coffins which drove him insane! But this time, it will to calm the Savage He-Man down for his own sake!

Basically, "by the power of Grayskull" is a cheat code that enables god mode. In must cases, one needs to collect an artifact - The Sword of Power" to enable it, but Adam, probably being a superuser, has authorization to enable it without the sword.

I've said it elsewhere, but this scene wins for me, since in almost every other work I've watched with 'hero goes unstable with power' - it doesn't even provide a momentary benefit (like the end of the original Turtles run). The villain just has sport with the now-unskilled hero, and they turn on their friends instantly. Here, Adam is a menace to all of them, and he even shows limited savvy. Still not good for those closest to him, but a break from the other style predominating. Pure speculation, but I think maybe the 'menace only' approach was some kind of anti-steroid directive from the networks.

It's ironic that the culture war that erupted with this series originally began as "This isn't AT ALL gonna be like WOKE SJW She-Ra!" but then it turns out both this and the She-Ra reboot get similar points across. Even VERY specific points. They're both about how friendship is more important than outdated philosophies, they both lean heavy into the muscular women territory, they both have initial villains that later turn out to having to answer to an even higher authority, they both are all about a new generation taking over after the original, and as we see here, they are both about how our heroes don't need the sword to be worthy of the powers of Grayskull. Adora can transform into She-Ra still after the sword is broken, and Adam can still be granted immense strength and powers even if Skeletor now has his blade. They're both about how our heroes are special and powerful due to their selfless, caring, loving, and courageous souls. Not the objects they wield.

I mean, if you think about it, Teela was a soldier and then a mercenary. Why wouldn't she have muscles? The same for Adora in the Netflix reboot. Dark Lyn was maybe a bit over the top, though.
@pacman5698
@pacman5698 Жыл бұрын
@@Owl_Space I think it's sad some people look at a woman character with a good amount of muscles or meat on their bones and think it inherently removes feminitity somehow. As far as I'm concerned, it doesn't. The outward appearance of being strong is more universal amongst gender and simply makes them look like they mean serious business in their roles. Like look at Rhea Ripley with all those muscles, or Yumi Nu with all that thiccness and tell me they still don't look like powerful women. Felt the same way with Spinerella's redesign. She's a bit thicc, but the roundness gives her the image that when she starts using her powers, she can do so for a while. Hell, Teela keeps her muscles when she becomes the new Sorceress and I'd say she still looks pretty feminine by the end. Another interesting thing is that the image of the thin, slim standard for women is more recent than some may think. It was pushed heavily by the tobacco industry in the early 20th century to promote cigarettes to women and married men in order to get around the social stigma that a woman would be improper or rude if she were to smoke.

@@TheVileOne Nothing. But I guess reactionaries gotta get angry at something. I'm willing to bet most of the culture war crap came from people who weren't really huge fans of the original shows and just wanted attention and bait for clicks. Kind of a pity that so many refuse to see both Dreamworks She-Ra or Revelation because of this nontroversey. We're in the midst of a Masters of the Universe golden age where both sides of the franchise have been done amazing justice.

honestly, while i heavily disliked it at first just like she-ra, as soon as i gave it a chance the show began to grow on me i mean sure, i still have gripes with it, like how Teela's entire "he didn't tell me" thing feels like something that is not deserved at all, if it was only because of the shock due to what happened then sure, but otherwise it doesn't feel like it has any weight behind it. like yeah you were friends, but the guy also hid it from his own parents, not to mention everyone else, and the only few people that did know he was he-man were either straight up the one to introduce him to castle greyskull, or people who actively participated in his exploits more often than not, like say his actual straight up mentor. also not a fan how Evil-lyn gets off a little too easy with all the stuff she does and tries to do, kinda like Catra, but this time feels a bit worse. being a victim is no excuse to then become a perpetrator yourself. and last but not least, we needed more he-man because he's awesome. but overall, aside from that, i actually find myself enjoying this show quite a bit, the only people not enjoying it at all are either ones that refuse to give it a chance, or people who just think any change ever made to a show qualifies as "woke".

@@tarnw3301 I'm actually fine with Adam being able to transform without the sword. I like the explanation that the sword controls the power so that he can be He-man rather than a mindless destroyer. It's analagous to magical beings like Skeletor needing the Havoc Staff to refine and direct their magic otherwise it would just chaotically be everywhere. I think my issue is just ANYBODY with the sword being able to transform. At most, I think it would have been better for the power of greyskull to decend on the one calling it but frying them instead because they would be unworthy.
