How fitting, a masterpiece of civil engineering meeting a masterpiece of naval engineering.

Drove my Dad up to SF where she was docked and we were caught up in some serious traffic on the Embarcadero. We caught a glimpse of her - magnificent. Now I know the exact date thanks to your post. I had real dreams about sailing on her. I believe that was the only time the QM2 made it up to San Francisco. She's too large to go through the Panama canal and has to go around South America. i ended up taking a San Francisco to Sydney cruise on Cunard's Queen Elizabeth this year, so my dreams were pretty much fulfilled!

At 1.17 we see the troupe carrying ship USS O'Brien. Interesting fact--- The engine room on the O'Brien was used for the engine room scenes for the Titanic movie. If you are in SF, a tour of USS O'Brien is well worth the admission fee. Lovely to see SF pre Sales Force tower.

*Queen Mary 2 passes under the Verrazano Narrows Bridge, New York with 6 -12 feet clearance over her funnel* I don’t think the 27 feet between her and the Golden Gate Bridge is anything to bother her captain.
@danc11972 жыл бұрын
Not a constant distance between water and bridge, tide can raise the water up around 10 to 15 feet on any given day. And this bridge has a pedestrian walk and 2 way bike line, so it allows people to stand directly above and film the ships as they pass under.

Hi everybody! Thank you for helping with the music you hear at the beginning of the video. No, not Vivaldi and not Bach. The author is Daniel Alcheh. The title of the song is Last food convention. It's a soundtrac from a movie. (The man who collect food)

The description of QM2 as a 'cruise' liner is insulting - she is the world's last and only TRANSATLANTIC OCEAN LINER. Cruise ships are floating petri dishes ......
@MoulfritProd4 ай бұрын
You are right! Sort of... I changed the description from cruise to liner, without "transatlantic". After all, my video was shot on the Pacific, and The QM2 travels around the world even if it was built as a transatlantic liner. While I agree with you that cruise ships are petri dishes, Cunard uses the word "cruise" in their advertisement... Thanks for the catch, and look for my upcoming video of my own transatlantic crossing on the QM2.

When a large group of enthusiastic people want to share their emotion and feel connected to the group, that's what they do. It doesn't matter that the people on the ship might not hear them, it's the feeling of being part of a moment and sharing with a large group of people that counts. Do you think the ball coming down on Time Square on New Year's can hear the roar of the crowd? No. But it's the experience shared by the crowd that people are cheering. Cheers!

Because she is a reminiscence to the great era of ocean travel. She is not a cruise ship but the only existing TRUE ocean liner ... and the biggest ocean liner ever bulit. The ships interior design is "art deco'ish" and sailing on her feels like being a guest at the "Waldorf Astoria" driving down Park Avenue. She is not one of these overcrowded shoeboxes with 6000-7000 passengers onboard. QM2 only carries 2600 passengers. She is pure grandure and style. It's a little bit like time travel back to the 1950s. She's one of a kind. That's why there is so much "hype" around her.

They want to see a gorgeous ship. It isn't about being a sheep, it's about simply wanting to see an engineering master piece.

There’s a community that exists that appreciates the days when intercontinental travel was done on giant, elegant, steam powered ocean liners. It was a time when each nation built their own, domestically and competed to have the fastest, biggest, and most luxurious. It was the pride of nations. The fastest ships were awarded the “Blue Ribband”; a long blue streamer to mount on the ships mast to show she was the fastest. It was a time of unparalleled class, luxury and beauty. This was a time when people slowed down to appreciate everything. Instead of being crammed into a plane like sardines for 8 hours, you would spend a week on an ocean liner, reading books, enjoying gourmet meals, dancing the night away, and your fellow shipmates became your new family for that time. I urge you to watch a video or two on the golden age of ocean liners. Human beings accomplished incredible feats of engineering during these times and people held these ships very dear to themselves. The Queen Mary 2 is the ONLY remaining modern ocean liner in service, she was built as an homage to the golden age. And I think people feel that when they see her and she gives them a feeling of what we used to be like in a day that is long gone, many years ago. She is a very special ship. Nothing to do with sheep at all. She is an absolute piece of engineering art.

It's because it's the only passenger ship that can take on rough seas and heavy storms and sail like a swan. It's also the fastest passenger ship (of this size) in the world. You have a lot of "cruise ships", some are larger than this one, but they are basically just floating pads built to be sailed in calm waters, and carry as many people as possible. You've seen those "cruise ship caught in heavy storm" videos, that show those fat ships wobbling around uncontrollably atop heavy waves? That's because they aren't built to sail in those conditions, and their navigating crew fucked up, so now they are just hopelessly trying to ride it out. This one's a quite different breed, it has a sharp bow and a deep hull, and it's built to slash through whatever the ocean can throw at it. It's also the only ship in the world that operates as an "ocean liner" and lets people cross the Atlantic the old fashioned way. There's a lot to respect about this.
