I don't know why some critics hated on this movie when it came out, sure there wasn't much in the way of action or excitement, but it was extremely well acted and ahead of its time. Probably one of the most realistic biographic films back then. Say what you want about John Huston's personal life, but he knew how to make movies about misfits and outcasts. Jose Ferrer deserved the oscar for his portrayal of Toulouse-Lautrec and he looked exactly like the real guy.

Outstanding performance by José Ferrer as the painter who masterfully portrayed the bohemian atmosphere in which he would be welcome.

I love this movie. Jose Ferrer is superior artist here.

To think that he had to walk around his knees during most of the production is just astonishing! What a perfect foil for Latrec!

Great dramatic film. Remarkable scene with sarcastic comments by the artist in one exhibition of his paintings...

Just saw Walter Crisham in a movie with Jack Larue, I had to look him up , he s wonderful, he is the dancer with the top hat. He played a thug in this movie, "No Orchids for Miss Blandish" he played a thug in this movie, he is really different.

I once I was at my friend's house and her mom said that she had recorded Moulin Rouge for us to watch. When she puts it on all of us (including her mom) excepted it to be the new one. Then this movie came on lets just say we were all confused and didn't know what to say.

It's a classic and one of Jose Ferrer's best.

Le cancan fait partie aussi de la révolution française, à l'époque ou la France se cherchait. Très beau spectacle à voir et à revoir. Merci;

Victor Bianquet uno de los grandes actores de su generacion, pero algo egomaniaco.

Yo assisti la pelicula años antes, me gostó mucho, argumento inteligente, y José Ferrer estaba excelente como el principal.

I remember watching this movie with my mother a long time ago. The Can Can dance struck me because of its vigour, and now looking back, it was 1952, hugely daring, too dangerous for 1952 with its Hungarian heroine, because powers that be were offering support in Hungary for some future revolution. The Hungarian Revolution took place in 1956, and quashed by the Russians.

I've never seen this movie and always loved his art. He had a very sad life. I wonder if it dealt with him having Syphilis? It might of been too controversial for a film made in 1952.
