Good to know: 1. You can charge your laptop as well, I tested with a laptop that requires 65W via USB-C to USB-C cable 2. The colors for the USB-C did not match the ESP button's color. They are darker. But the USB-C PD port matched perfectly. 3. Number 24 on my side panel fuse box is my 12v front car charger, from its bottom pin I go with a wire to a 5A fuse and from the fuse's other end I wire it to slot 31 up position. On slot 31 current flows only when the ignition is turned on. This way I prevent battery drainage from the USB ports because they have a red light on them that would otherwise always stay on long after the ignition is shut off. The numbers on the sidepanel may differ for your car charger slot, so check your fusebox diagram. @@dokt9304 I don t know if they are oficially rated 65w+ but only the usb c port, and not the other two, allowed my laptop to charge via usb c to usb c cable. My laptop is a lenovo that requires 65w to charge.

Thanks for the video.. I am considering these USB ports too, but prefer 3 times a usb-c since everything nowadays uses usb-c... (I hope they also enable fast charging) Can you explain what the wire does in the fuse-box or is it optional.. I didn't quite get that...

They will all have fast charging. I used here 2 USB A + 1 USB C because I have a lot of USB-A to USB-C cables. They will all have fast charging. The wire in the fuse box makes the lights (and power) from the USB ports go off when I turn off the ignition. If they stay on all the time, like the 12v charger/cigar lighter does, they might drain the battery. Some cars turn off that 12v charger/cigar lighter after a few minutes after ignition which is great, meaning that you do not have to ensure that the battery is not being drained.

My Mk5 Jetta (2010) only runs the 12v when the ignition is on, I didn’t have to make any changes. You should get an RCD 330 stereo. It’s OEM and has Android Auto/Car Play. Looks good in my Mk5.

@@elkellenhabla that s nice. Thank you for the suggestion, but the one in the video is the old RCD300 stereo. And the best one you can buy for the golf mk5 is the rns/rcd 510 which does not have Android Auto/Car play unfortunately. You can mod them further to integrate carplay (for quite some cash) but there are aftermarket ones that have it out of the box.

You said don't judge me on the poor wiring but I have to 😂 with all those buttons that you hooked up to the cigarette lighter in the ashtray you run risk that this draws too much current when they are all in use and the wire melts away as you removed the fuse from the slot. Cleanest way would be a relay, at the very least I would put two piggyback fuses together. As a tip.

Ordered practicly the same for my Eos. I will be installing them in 1 month from now, since i am away. The thing is that the chinese harness has only 2 wires at one end. Which means that LEDs in USB will turn on, even with my lights off. It is an easy fix, just an extra (brown) cable Dont trust aliexpress sellers. Sometimes they sent other items than the pictures.

In my car that was the case, apparently it stays on even after I lock the car. Maybe it stays on like the radio for 1 hour. I did not test this thoroughly for 1 hour.

also, as I researched, this was happening to other people too. 12v lighter stays on all the time feeding whatever is plugged in. This is useful for when you want to charge your phone for example while you go shopping a couple of hours, but bad if you leave some cool leds on overnight, draining the car's battery.

Some cars supply power to the cigarette lighter even after being locked. Some cut it after some time, some even keep it running forever. I found that in newer cars you will find it more commonly, that the 12V socket only works while the car is not turned off / locked.

I have the auto and I’ve never wanted to k my self more in my life. The amount of ghetto fanagling required is horrific. Only way I got it to work was to rage pull it twice in 2 sections and processes I won’t elaborate on and that worked. If you don’t have a manual GOOD LUCK have fun

at 11:05 you can see my setup for this. You need to wire your 12v charger to an ignition fuse that only turns on when you turn your key. The problem will then be that you cannot charge your phone when the car is turned off, but for me it s not a big problem.

I had such bad leds that I broke the wire 3 times and had to solder them back every time. Also the cables were too short and had to cut them up and add more length to them. Horrible, but at least they work now. I would of been nice to make a video but it took me 2 days to install them because I did not have all the tools on the first day to do this (soldering iron and extra cable...)

that s not good. Double check the wires and see if you have any bad or naked wires. Replace your burned fuse but do not go higher amperage, ex: if you had 5a, don't put a 10a instead.. If the issue persists, I would suggest trying another set of USBs.

@@КириллКиреев-б6з glad you sorted it out. Also watch out for those leds when you turn off your car, they will keep staying on and they might drain your battery if you don t wire them to the ignition to have the 12v shut down with the ignition.

Yes, first have a look here for the basic idea www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/f15/make-12v-turn-off-key-130491.html Take a 5A fuse and put two wires on it. One wire goes to bottom fuse slot (number 24 for cigarette lighter from front) that turns on. The other wire goes to the up position to whatever fuse provides power when the ignition is turned on (in my case, number 31) If you do this setup, according to your fuse box and car model, your usb slots should only work when the ignition is turned on and not cause battery drainage.

Al meu nu are microfon și nu pot să iau apeluri "hands free" cu telefonul, cam nasol, tre să dau pe speaker și să țip în tel. Trebuie să dai jos casetofonul, el se dă foarte ușor jos dar trebuie dat cu grijă ca să nu îi rupi piciorușele de plastic. Bagi pur și simplu contectorul cu 12 pini în spate la casetofon, îi faci undeva puțin loc la modul să stea cumva printre fire, îl pui la loc și aia e. @@ISCapture așa ca idee eu fac instrumentale hip hop, trap ocazional și pentru mine se aude satisfăcător. Da, nu se va auzi super bine, cristal clar, dar asta pentru că și amplificarea din RCD300 e foarte slabă pentru sistemul audio de pe Golf 5 și îl va trage în jos pe partea de boxe, că nu le alimentează îndestul. Pentru gusturile mele "audiofile" este îndeajuns. Iar modulatorul ăla FM poți să-l arunci urgent la gunoi. Am încercat și eu la un moment dat cu așa ceva și concluzia a fost că mai bine nu mai ascult muzică deloc :)) sau doar la radio. Se aude groaznic și comparativ cu bluetooth e diferență enormă. Îmi cumpărasem Cd-uri originale la un moment dat până să am bluetooth, că alea făcute la manual nu mergeau. Dacă ai schimba radio-ul s-ar auzi mai bine. Un RNS510 m-ar tenta și pe mine dar e cam 1.000 de lei 2nd hand și nu prea mă grăbesc să arunc cu banii pe el. Și atunci dacă vrei experiență audiofilă poți asculta muzică în format .wav, .flac direct de pe card SD, USB. Eu nu prea am timp de așa ceva. După poți să spargi banii pe un subwoofer, după boxe mai bune prin mașină. Bani să fie :)

This is the problem I was also facing. You can see the solution at min 11:00. You will have to take a small piece of wire and an extra fuse and plug it in in the third hole down and then as in the video on the side hole up on an existing fuse

@@alix4280 oh, sorry, I apparently misunderstood you. I do not think you can make them NOT light up at all and still be able to charge your phone. I'm not that good of electrician to tell if it's doable or not. If you follow my stepts they will light up and work only when you turn on your ignition. The rest of the time they will NOT work at all. I personally would buy ones that have NO lights on them in the first place.

@@V0CANAPTR No. Usb 3.0 refers to the data transfer rate and 5v 1.5A charging. Is not usb 3.0 It can never be usb 3.0 because it has 4 pins on the back, it's missing the 5 extra pins to make it usb 3.0 connector instead of usb 2.0 connector. It is Quick charge 3.0 because it can charge at 3.2 or 3.6 V - 20 V in 0.2 V increments at up to 4.6A And if it really is just QC3.0 and doesn't support USB PD then the moment you plug a phone with a chipset other than Qualcomm it will just use 5V at maybe 2 or 3A. So yes although it might seem the same to you, it is not. It's 10x slower in data transfer speeds (if it is even connected although most Head units only offer USB2.0 anyways) And it is slow at charging. I didn't want to argue since the creator didn't get it with the comment, but i did wan't to explain the difference to your comment. Edit: by slow in charging i mean compared to usb pd 20V at 5A and now even 48V at 5A

Thank you for the useful information.👍 And as you pointed out with the low power output, you cannot charge a 65W laptop with those USB slots, you have to use the USB-C port as it delivers more power, I think that one is USB PD. Also watch out for those wanting to do this to not charge your laptop too much while the car is not running as the battery will drain. edit: I just noticed it was already written in the video title: "Quick Charger USB 3.0 ", so that's your USB QC 3.0. Sorry for the confusion though :)

You re right. I wanted to showcase how you set up the usb's, so that horrble sidepanel job is just to show that you would need to do something similar if you want the lights to turn off and not drain your battery 👍 I am not a pro electromechanic, I just did this for myself just to have it done.
