How is your reticle so small? Mine is huge and I'm missing everything.

Sorry for the late response, but will respond nevertheless. I think it has to do with the skill level and with the velocity of your horse. The faster your horse goes - the bigger the reticle will be.

How does it ever work against anyone stronger than looters? I just can't see this working against enemy cavalry or just a bunch of archers/javelin throwers

Late answer, I apologize. Good question, it becomes progressively harder, but it can carry you through the early game, and in large numbers, your mounted archer forces can deal quite effectively with a lot of the units. It was kind of like this in M&B 1 as well.
