Hello, everyone! This time we have finally arrived at the much-awaited Mount Bromo!
Although Indonesia has many volcanoes, and Java has many active volcanoes, we, as Indonesians, have never been to any of them. Mainly because in Kalimantan, where we reside, there are no active volcanoes. So this is our first time seeing a real active volcano up close~
Mount Bromo is located in East Java, Indonesia, at an altitude of 2329 meters. It's referred to as the "most moon-like place on Earth" by National Geographic and is also featured on the cover of Lonely Planet Indonesia.
For international flights arriving at Surabaya International Airport, you can head to Malang city first, either by bus, train, or rental car (you can refer to the car rental company we recommended in our Malang video). We departed from Malang, and the driver came to pick us up around midnight. You can also choose to stay in the small town at the base of the volcano if it fits your preferences. The advantage is that you can get a few more hours of sleep. Since we stayed in the city center, we have to depart around midnight.
Upon reaching the summit by jeep, there are some small shops nearby where you can grab a bite. There's no specific viewpoint, so you can ask the driver/guide for recommendations and choose one yourself. When you walk up to the viewpoint, don't forget to look up - you'll witness the most beautiful starry sky. The sunrise in the morning is truly breathtaking, a masterpiece of nature! It's just as beautiful as the photos you see online, no, even more beautiful!
After that, you can get a close-up view of Mount Bromo. The road to the volcano crater is quite challenging, and you can choose to hike or ride a horse. Riding a horse requires an additional fee, around 200K IDR per person for a round trip. Listening to the rumbling of the volcano at the crater is truly awe-inspiring.
If you have the chance, you must visit Mount Bromo - you won't regret it!

✔️ When is the Best Time to Visit Mount Bromo?
The best time to visit is from June to August, during Indonesia's dry season, so there's less rainfall, and the chances of witnessing a beautiful sunrise are higher. If it's raining, you'll basically miss the sunrise.
✔️ What's the Local Weather Like?
Although June to August is the best time to visit, it's also the coldest period for Mount Bromo, and the temperature can drop to 0 degrees. Especially in the early morning while waiting for the sunrise, it's the coldest. I suggest you to bring a jacket. However, it starts to warm up after the sunrise, so you can wear lighter clothes inside and put on a thick jacket outside. You can take off the jacket once it gets warmer.
