I joined Hiking Adventures Malaysia (HAM) for a hike to Mt Fuji. I flew to Tokyo on 2 Aug and return home on 6 Aug. We ascended on 3rd to station 9. We spent a night and summited the next morning at 3.30am.
We started at Fujinomiya trailhead at the 5th station. The aim on 3 Aug was to reach the rest house at 9th station by 5pm. Unfortunately, the journey from 7th station to 9th station was done in the rain, they called the horizontal rain. We were all drenched by it. My hands were frozen and completely exhausted when I reached the rest house. I need someone to help me make sense of what to do next. I slept at 8pm as I was very tired from lack of sleep the night before.
I woke up at 2am on Friday 4th Aug to prepare for summit attack at 3.30am. I reached summit at about 5am. Everyone was trying to capture the sunrise. Once they were done. All of us stayed and waited for an hour for the post office to open so our team mates could get their stick stamp and also some of them to post something home.
At 6.30am we descended via Yoshida Subaru Trail. We reached the trailhead at about noon. It was a long scary hike down as the trail is made of loose rocks and sand.
It was a great experience. Mt Fuji has very little vegetation and generally bald, with rocks and sand. You will always feel you are close to the clouds and for me, I also felt I was close to the thunder and lightning. :)
