Great video. Love your energy....passionate but not over the top. Had a two day trip there12 years ago...camped at Iceberg, summitted Whitney the first day, then Russell the second...great trip!

You’re a brave man, I wouldn’t do anything past class 2 rock scrambling, maybe weak class 3 but beyond that is essentially rock climbing. I love the views of this peak
@trvrsoutdoors3 ай бұрын
Besides the exposure, I would consider Russell an easy class 3 route. It's very good rock and there aren't any overly technical moves. Thank you!

It's wonderful to watch your exertions. I too have done some of your deliriously delightful routes. ( North side of Iron Mtn...masochist much? ) It was simply 55 years ago. My best life memories are of what you are capturing with your GoPro. Gone are the days of lugging single lens reflex cameras to get quality stills. I like your timing with the camera. Keep it up young man.

55 years ago. I would love to have the opportunity to see this unique place then. It's funny that you brought up the camera. 5 years ago, I tried to make these videos, and the technology still wasn't there. Gopro's footage was still too shakey, and the batteries would die in mildly cold weather. Once the 10 came out, I decided to try again. Same for mobile devices. I'm definitely grateful to have the opportunity to share these outings, especially with people like you who understand what these places mean, let alone how difficult they are to reach. Cheers.

Wow those clouds in the background and the lakes! What a beautiful view:)

yeah, the transition from blue bird skies to the clouds along the ridge really brought it all together. Love the deep blue alpine lakes surrounding Russell.

The way you turn and showed the camera the freakin view and how your perception on things instantly changed from being miserable to its all worth it…chef kiss 🤌🏽 another sick hike! Happy Trails!!

Haha. It's funny how turning around and recognizing how far you've come (while seemingly tropey/corny), is such a real tangible necessity to progress. Keep pushing!

Mad props. Having done Whitney in 3 days up mountaineers route I felt a portion of your route in my knees. Definetly sparked my intrest in Roussel!

I had to leave out an entire clip dedicated to how unique and awesome Tulainyo is just because it wasn't well phrased. But I agree. Thanks for watching brother.

Tried it today....got swallowed up in the willows above Lower Boy Scout Lake and tried to skirt them on the south side but hit steep, impassible slabs. The advice to head to the north side of all that bushwhacking is spot on here.....I can attest from experience. Will be back to try the exciting part of the climb -- the ridge itself -- again in the future. Nice video!

Always good when I have the bulk of the route to myself. Maybe saw 6 people, only a long the north fork Whitney route.

Great video! To a person who is afraid of exposed height, is Mt. Russel more difficult than Middle Palisade? I watched your other video also.
@trvrsoutdoors4 ай бұрын
Middle Palisade has more danger in terms of rock fall due to route placement. Russell has sheer exposure along the ridge, but has plenty of hand holds over solid granite. It is safe. However, I could see the ridgeline slowing someone with a fear of heights down quite a bit.

I'm not a good mountaineer. Have you climbed up Mt. Whitney mtnering route and turned right. Is it a possible long traverse?
@trvrsoutdoors3 ай бұрын
I'd imagine you'd hit some 4th or 5th class granite spires up there. The Secor book mentions that you can ascend the whitney russell pass and cross into the arctic lake basin, so I'm sure you can make a day of exploring that area. But you'd have to look do some additional research to find out more. Someone MUST have done it.

I had a fun weekend from Kearsarge Pass Trailhead last week, climbed University and Independence. Some of the ridge crawling around them both was really top notch - especially Independence -- awesome terrain out there!

Is the ridge that narrow or is it just the camera distortion?
@trvrsoutdoors4 ай бұрын
Little bit o both. They call it "the knifes edge" for a reason. However I am using a GoPro on Full frame mode, so there is some fisheye lense trickery going on. The other camera I use is the mobile device. Those long tripod shots paint the better picture.
