So cool to see the road. This was my area from 1980-84. Lots of camping, 4-wheeling and drinking here. Great memories.

That road was closed until somewhat recently, long after when the radar station closed, when greedy people who owned land up there kept the road closed. One could drive up Hicks Road to where the road to the peak itself intersected. Sometimes it would snow that low in the winter, so it was easy enough to drive to that point and play in it, probably at 2,000 feet. I certainly saw snow on that peak, and nearby and higher Loma Prieta, at 3,800 feet, plenty of times as a kid growing up in the South Bay and able to see those peaks from my house till condos were built in the late 60s, blocking the view.

Thank you for posting, was thinking of driving up but my car has low profile tires and I was afraid the roads would be rough. Looks like a windy road but the road looks smooth!! :)
