There is a native title claim. The big rains caused major damage, and national parks are not going to spend money fixing it if it is not going to be reopened. Locals that live on it want it to themselves. Many visitors have left a mess behind. Also, increasingly, visitors would gain access at night to be on the summit for sunrise. Local 60 years.

Well I'm even more glad I climbed it when the track was closed in 2022. I pay taxes and its public land so no-one is going to stop me walking where I want to walk in my own country. I ignored the signs and walked right on by to do a climb that myself, friends and many overseas backpackers enjoyed in the 90's. The leaches were horrendous and I had to navigate some completely overgrown areas. The track is in a terrible state of disrepair then so it will take a lot of money (and time) to repair it. Who is going to pay for it? If its from government funding which is from taxpayers then can I suggest that the funding comes only from men and indigenous men. Why should my tax money contribute to something if as a woman I'm prohibited from using it. What I don't understand is how brainwashed people who I thought were independent free thinkers are in support of concepts and policy that is essentially restricting their own freedoms. Where is this cultural prohibition going to end in this country? This is what it is - non-indigenous cultural prohibition.
