We always appreciate your honest and up front reviews. I just wanted to explain a couple things. Firstly, the "popping noise" heard when applying pressure to your brakes with our rotors are 100% designed to do just that. We spent much time developing a rotor that would vent the hot gasses produced by the brake pads "the popping noise" the bigger cutouts on our rotors are designed to take a big gulp of air and as it passes through the pads and gets compressed then almost give you an exhaust note on exit which will cool the rotor and pad surface simultaneously. Secondly it looks like your pad sweep was off by about 2-3mm too high, so you where not even getting full pad contact. never the less, TRP makes a fantastic product! Also know that we take your criticism carefully to mind when developing our new products. keep an eye out for our new Disc Shark® and floating rotor that will be a true floating rotor both axial and radial! keep up the video's and good work!

yeah having gotten a tank of an ebike with single piston and 180mm rotor i can say the turkey sound is real. stopping a heavy bike doing 20/33 mph with a single piston is okay but it can be better. your videos just confirms i need to spend more money on dual piston and bigger rotors, i guess xmas is coming early lol.

How does thicker rotors give you more power? I keep hearing that but don't understand how
@alfrednOObel2
@alfrednOObel2 8 ай бұрын
@@Rickie-37 A part of it is subjective as with thicker rotors you get the bite point faster and feel more power. But the other thing is that they don't get hot so fast, so they maintain optimal braking parameters during longer descends. As there is no fade, you get that bite when you need to brake more after you have been slowing down before.
@Rickie-37
@Rickie-37 8 ай бұрын
Yea the whole bite point thing still puzzles me. In automotive and motorcycles, the piston will just stay out further as the pads and rotors wear down. I guess if you bleed it with the pistons out a bit it would feel the same with thinner rotors? @@alfrednOObel2

@alfrednOObel2
@alfrednOObel2 8 ай бұрын
@@MrSupermugen I have changed only the rotors, and my brakes are more powerful. Maybe it is not direct, but thicker rotors need less cooling, so less holes. Less holes = more contact surface = more friction = better breaking.

Cool video! I recently bought my first ebike(Levo) after owning countless mtbs. I still own a hardtail and full sus all mountain bike. I have had good experiences with Sram, Shimano and most recently, TRP brakes. I put some trp dhr evos on and was blown away with how great they are. They worked great for first few weeks until my new Nobl tr41 wheels showed up with Onyx classic centerlock hubs. Not sure what I did but I lost the amazing lever feel in the rear. It looks like I have a slight bend on the rear rotor and its enough to push the pistons in as it rotates. The lever feels great in the garage after I purge it but when I get out to the trails, the lever pulls way further than it should. If i pump them up while riding, they are good. If I ride for few minutes and dont use the rear brake, the lever pulls way too far once I use it. I have bleed the rear brake and purged the lever over and over. I am going to see if I can get the slight bend out of the rotor. Thats the only thing I can think of that would do this! Ahhhhh Cool video again!
@travelthenarrowtrail8660

It could be the bent rotor has warn down the pad on one side. I would also purchase new set of pads and try the lever. Could also have some bubbles in the brake line, another possibility.

I'm not sure why everyone seems to constantly say Shimano brakes are "on or off" or "they have no modulation". If you want to actually see what brakes that are like that feel like, try out old Hayes Nines. Shimano Saints/Zees/XTRs most definitely DO have modulation, it's just that it's only a few MM of lever travel between no brakes and full brakes. They force you to be much more delicate on the brake levers, but once you learn how to modulate them, oh baby what power and control they provide. Yes they are pretty touchy, but what do you prefer, a brake with all kinds of modulation but next to no power like Hopes, or with great modulation like SRAMs but zero reliability or brakes that are a bit touchier, but are very reliable and have way more power?
@travelthenarrowtrail8660
@travelthenarrowtrail8660 2 жыл бұрын
I prefer my new TRP DH Evo brakes, serious power, a little modulation and power to throw you over the bars. All while staying cool in constant braking descents. For a guy who is 215 without a pack, I love power. I will never uses SRAM brakes again. They have to be the most unreliable brakes on the market and they fade in prolonged descents losing power to stop. The TRP's are not lightest as say a SRAM or Shimano XT or XTR 4 piston but they are also not as expensive either. Priced right...

I don't hate the Shimano they just don't have much feel to them, coming from dirtbikes you appreciate having reliable modulation like the trp DHR or most SRAM brakes. I have run 3 sets of codes RSC and sram db8 they are super reliable for me. Idk if I'm the outlier everyone shit on SRAM brakes for various reasons but I've been impressed with the feel and reliability...

that noise at 1:50 isn't necessarily bad, I believe it's just the rotor "gaps" slicing through your pads, it helps keeping them clean. I find the low speed noise strange though since I've had great experiences with galfer products and they were not noisy at all.

@@Montezuma0 So, I've been using the shark tooth rotor. It's pretty good in all aspects, except for heat on long descents. The TRP rotor dissipates heat better due to its thickness. However, the shark rotors are lighter, which makes less rolling mass and creates a snappier wheel.

This video confirms to me my problem Ive been experiencing with my SRAM G2 Cleansweeps with BB7s. Rear 160mm isn't so bad. But the 180mm front is very noisy with the slot cutting noises that I can feel jittering away thru my rigid fork. Probably putting extra pits in my headset bearings. TRP RS01E don't seem to come in 160mm. :(

I ordered the galfer wave 2.0 for my ebike on Tuesday. They shipped from Poland to Germany to my house in Florida on Thursday which is insane. I consider the TRP 2.3mm but there were mixed opinions as to whether they’d actually fit. I’ve got pretty crappy brakes (tektro auriga 2 pots), but I’m hoping the bigger rotors and ceramic/metallic pads will make a noticeable improvement
@travelthenarrowtrail8660
@travelthenarrowtrail8660 2 жыл бұрын
That's the other problem with galfer rotors are they ship them sometimes from outside the USA. Sometimes the rotors can get bent coming from such a trek. So make sure they come to you straight not bent because this will ruin your experience as they will rub if you are unable to straighten them out.

Love this video man! No one has a legit review on these rotors. I'm running Shimano RT66 203mm front & back with MTX red label pads. I'm considering TRP RS01E like yours but unsure if I should reduce my rear to 180mm (like your setup). This is the first time I've had 203mm in the back and man....they STOP. Also considering TRP pads for my XT 4 pistons. Are they better than MTX? What do you think? BTW....I'm riding a 2020 Rocky Mountain Instinct BC.
@travelthenarrowtrail8660
@travelthenarrowtrail8660 2 жыл бұрын
What you’ll notice on mtx pads vs TRP metallic sintered pads is that one, the mtx have a quicker bite point. Next, trp pads are not as immediate in bite but they’re just as powerful . Furthermore, trp pads have more modulation. I’ve come to like it really. Also, trp pads are more affordable in price. But really, you can’t go wrong with either though. Honestly, a rear 180mm TRP rotor that is 2.3mm is going to feel like a 203mm rotor that’s 1.8mm thick. You can run the trp rear 203mm but I think it’s overkill. But remember, if you watch the video. If you go with the TRP rotors choose your pads and stick with them. If you use new and different pads that are on old rotors, those old rotors are gonna scream like turkeys. TRP rotors and pads for the xt 4 piston brakes are gonna be legit, you’ll love the powerful performance. You just have to re-adjust the caliper because the clearance is tight. Let me know how it works for you. Ride on…
