I wake up Monday/Wednesday/Friday with a sense of excitement thanks to the fact that you are still hunting down trails to ride in the dead of winter dude. I think only a mountain biker can truly understand how difficult and frustrating it is to not be riding due to whatever reason, but thanks to you, for these 17 minutes I get to forget about that and join you on a ride. Cheers to you Brian! p.s. I am really surprised at these Vegas trails, they actually looked quite fun and adventurous!

Scared me a little at 2:45, but what a sweet photo.. Nice editing and sound effects with the signs.. Taking it up a notch. Love the follow cam as well. Sweet, sweet trails, and I'm jealous of the weather. Have you been pumping grease into the bottom linkage ? It's well worth getting a mini grease gun, and loading up with some high end bearing grease. The grease gun that comes with the bike is junk so get a real good one. A couple squirts every 2-3 weeks into each zerk will make it super happy, especially if it's exposed to any moisture (rain, creeks, rivers, etc..) clean up the mess with a Q-tip and you are good to go. With as much as you ride, might be a good idea to stay well on top of this. For the top linkage, just take it a part. Clean it real good. Then re-lube and re-assemble. SC has great instructions for the mechanically able on their web page. I personally rebuild my bottom linkage bearings every 3-4 months depending on what's going on with my riding. I also purchased the 'propack' of bearings and linkages from SC, even though they have free lifetime bearings. Then annually I replace all the bearings and send them to SC for replacement. I do this so I don't have any downtime on the bike, and so that I have spares for all the linkages just in case anything brakes, bends, or rattles lost. So far, I have only had to replace bearings and some of the rubber seals in the bottom linkage. Also a great idea to keep a spare drop-out on you at all times. You probably already do, but at only 12 bucks, it pay's to order a couple spares. I have broken one DO in a race crash, and ruined one derailleur on a random stick in the snow, but otherwise the DO has never needed to be straightened so I'm real pleased.
@bkxc7 жыл бұрын
This is great info, Bruce! I got the creak figured out the next day after we took apart the linkage and cleaned it. I definitely need to hit that grease port more often, as the really wet conditions of New Zealand did a number on my bike. I carry 2 derailleur hangers with me, haha!
@Bjoggi3087 жыл бұрын
Wet conditions and general winter riding/training is why I have a dedicated single speed 29er HT. I just have to rebuild the Bottom Bracket bearings regularly, but the rest of the bike is pretty much bullet-proof and easy to maintain. I seem to blow through chains and chain-rings, but that's just me. I should have figured you'd have backup hangers, as I have seen that you'd rather carry a little extra and be prepared. I share that motto. Full tool-kit plus a nicely stocked med-kit are a must IMHO when things go wrong. Was the creak in the lower-link ? I have found that I need to clean it fairly often or the rubber seals wear out from sand and general grime. Dusty or sandy conditions seem to be the biggest culprits. And now that I have done it over a dozen times, it's actually a fairly quick maintenance item. Maybe 30 minutes.

Rocking Bontrager Team Issue SE5 27.5 x 2.3 inch tires set up tubeless. These bontrager SE5's are probably my favorite tire I have ridden. They grip good and are very predictable, feel solid. I was mostly riding Maxxis Minion DHR II's, DHFs, Ardents, High rollers and I prefer the SE5's. Though I got the SE5's for a really good deal $20 for both of them, if I have to pay full price I might go with the Maxxis since they are cheaper.

Vegas has some pretty decent trails, and more are popping up. Lots of peeps from the community making trails. Great video. I always hated Vegas. The strip, the cigarette smoke, the BS. On work trips I have met locals that love riding, rafting, and climbing. They swear by the place.
