Mountain biking looks like a ton of fun, I think that’s my next sport I’ll have to take up. I also just check out Dadu Trail House in the maps and it’s actually a place I ride by quite often, I’ll have to stop by for a visit on my next ride.

Yay Cole, you finally hit my pet issue with this one. I got into mountain biking at the age of 15 back in 1988 and was hooked right away. The mix of endurance sport, getting into nature and the wild and having fun when the going gets technical and sketchy is the true appeal to me. All of my almost 30 stays in Taiwan between 2008 and 2019 were due to the bicycle industry: Working as a journalist at Taipei Cycle Show, attending Taichung Bike Week (an industry-only event) or visiting factories and interviewing the management. And an extra week off to explore Taiwan on my own, using its top-notch public transport. Most of the cycling I've done in Taiwan has been on roads however, including a two-day ride on a folding bike from Hualien to Ruisui and onwards to Taitung. I've been riding mountain bikes on Taichung's Longjing Trails a couple of times, but not Dadu mountain. The trails looks good over there! And I've been on a trip with folks from the cycling industry where we also rode on a military training ground close to Tainan, on Monkey mountain in Kaohsiung (some rocky and tech trails there, I took one hard dive...) and on an insane old Japanese military trail high in the mountain jungle that connects Pingtung and Taitung counties, the Jinshueiying trail. You're not supposed to ride bikes there really, and the upper part surely was more survival than flow.

Wow thanks for sharing that story with me and I’m glad I made a video of one of your interests. I’m going to do some more exploring of this hobby soon. I am hopefully going to check out the super eight.

Cole! Thanks for making the video and introduce the MTB theme in Taiwan! It was nice to meet you and the whole crew :) We truly hope that more people can join the lovely sports and more support from government and the bicycle industrial. We are learning building the legal trail and promote the sports by following USA and Canada's path. We are maybe at least 10 years behind. Long way to go and we will keep riding! Come see us and have some fun at Super 8 15-May!! cheers! Nicole

Dadu mountain nearby the Taichung city ,a small hill is more suited for the beginner mountain bikers. sometimes I need to relax my body then ride my full suspension bike to rock ,thrilling to tried.😆🚲💪

I found that mountain perfect for me as a beginner there are trails for advanced cyclists and trails for new riders like myself. It was a perfect place to learn and grow in this new sport.

Cole, thank you for shining a light on this topic and introducing these wonderful people who are spreading the love of MTB purely from the goodness of their hearts! If only the government would sit up, take notice, and start giving back to an industry that has put Taiwan on the global manufacturing map-with MTB accounting for 60% of bicycle related exports, they should be ashamed. Plus, there's no lack of gravity in Taiwan to play with...🚵🏼♂

Let’s tackle this from our hearts and teach them about how great the sport is and make them want to help more. I will certainly try to spread the word as best I can and make more videos about this. I think mountain biking is genuinely an exciting sport to be a part of. Even if I can only do a jungle bunny trail. It gets you out into nature and connecting with your environment and it really helps you focus and be in the moment.
