I love single speed mountain bikes, especially hardtails a lot of people ride SS downhill bikes also. They're not always the best for climbing, especially long steep climbs (depends on the gradient and your gear ratio) but for rolling stuff with short and steep or longer gentle climbs they really encourage you to keep your speed/momentum, to ride smooth and to keep a high cadence. They're also lighter and there's a lot less that can go wrong. e.g snapped chains are very rare because there's never any lateral movement that might cause a pin to pull out of the plate..

I mostly agree with you Sandy. I love the simplicity and snappy feel of SS. I actually enjoy it for long steep(ish) climbs more than expected. I love short, punchy stuff and rollers make my heart sing. It’s the techy stuff that throws me for a loop. I’m currently pushing a 34 tooth chainring and a 19 tooth cog. It feels perfect for my local singletrack, though I have considered throwing something a little smaller on to see how it feels.

I'm glad you enjoyed it, and I see you make the visuals too. I'll check out your channel and look out for you on these GSO trails!

Only a brother would be mad enough to ride a single speed hardtail on a single track. Lucky for him the trail was smooth with not too many inclines. If my man had pulled that trick where I ride, he’d already be dead and pushing up roses on Boot Hill.

Ha! I am a bit nutty. I can’t wait to read your thoughts on my next one 😄

are you using 175mm cranks to push that kind of ratio?
@PedalVision2 жыл бұрын
I am! 175mm cranks just work well for me, but they certainly don’t hurt when it comes to my SS efforts

@@PedalVision nice, I find that it is easier to push harder gears with longer cranks

Do the dod walkers ever tell you guys of for ridding? they do where we ride
@PedalVision2 жыл бұрын
They’re usually pretty chill as long as we give them a heads up. We have so many multi-use trails around here that I think it encourages harmony.

@@PedalVision I hear ya this last week i started using my bell on my bike just as i'm getting near the dog walkers and they dont seem to mind so much now.

@@fendigucci6307 Funny story. I have a bike bell in my toolbox. I've been back and forth about slapping it on the bike, but kindly shouting at people is so effective that it still lives in the box. My buddy Cam uses one and loves it.

Mr Matthew! Thanks for subscribing! I raced at Lake Norman a while back. It was great then, and I had all the gears. I think I need to revisit on the new whip.

That's a good looking whip Greg, what ratio are you pushing?
