Hi ! If this bird is still alive, you should buy a couple more young males and let this bird trains them. Its the best whistle I heard so far. I am sure this bird is from the Surinam/ Corentyne area. The black back from NWD sings almost the same but has a lot of passion. The only thing this grey/green back does not do is "Surp ! Surp ! Surp !

Thanks for liking my comment. I appreciate that very much. It reminds me of my days with my mountain canaries = black back, Blue with white stripes around eyes, blue with three white spots on chest and head and most of all this green back.

I'm from Brazil! This bird in Brazil is called " Cigarra" It's the same song of the mountain canary seedeater from Brazil!! nice finch!! search on youtube " Azulao"!!

It is Sporophila schitacea. I have a male and a female. In Brazil we called it "cigarra", "cigarra do norte" or "cigarra do bico virado da copa". Many people confounds it with S. falcirostris (cigarra verdadeira). But the females are indistinguishable

Irinabebe- In Guyana there are four species of mountain canary- the Grey Back, the Blue Back with white streaks above eye and on neck, the Black back as in theis Videa and the Green back which sings the best.

In Suriname it's called a "Gele Bek", which means "Yellow beak". They cost up to 200 US dollars here.
