I was kindly invited to go out and join The Holme Valley Mountain Rescue Team to film them in action during an emergency rescue.
When I arrived the weather wasn’t ideal for the drone as the mist came in, then the rain and afterwards high winds as you can see in parts of the video. Luckily I managed to film a practice rescue for them but you can clearly see on the footage that the drone was being put through it’s paces.
This was originally planned to be a much longer video but due to the bad weather and poor visibility I managed to put this much shorter video together as a lot of the footage was unusable but will do something again like this in the future.
As you can imagine the mountain rescue call outs don’t usually take place on pleasant warm days and so it was very realistic whilst out with them as I can imagine them being called out in the worst weather possible sometimes.
The Mountain Rescue team, which is based in Marsden near Huddersfield, needed to replace their time-served 20-year-old Land Rover with a more modern, purpose-built vehicle and the Freemasons weighed in with a £30,000 grant to help them achieve this.
Their plight had been identified by the Freemason’s Holme Valley Lodge, who succeeded in acquiring a significant grant from the Province of Yorkshire, West Riding’s Masonic Community Fund.
With the Freemason’s financial support, together with other donations, the Mountain Rescue team were able to purchase an Isuzu Pick-up truck and have it specially adapted to become an emergency response vehicle.
The Holme Valley Mountain Rescue team has over 70 emergency calls each year and their new vehicle went straight into service after being delivered to their Marsden headquarters.

I would like to say a huge thank you to all the Holme Valley Mountain Rescue Team who were unphased by the drone and cameras and do an amazing Job.
Last but not least I would also like to say a big thank you to the local Freemasons from Holme Valley Lodge for inviting me and I look forward to covering more events in the future.
