What if for when the sapiens reach the highest level in their instrument, they play along with the ingame music? Basically adding layers to the soundtrack. It would also work well when there are multiple instruments, they could each contribute something unique. Although, it would mean creating these layers for every song in the game which might be a bit troublesome...

There’s a similar feature in Pokémon Black & White’s soundtrack where you can talk to NPCs in some towns that add a new instrument to the backing track. I think it can work!

@@rikafurude6275 I forgot about that feature and literally just found it restarting BW yesterday. Definitely a small touch that adds a lot! Could you add a little variety in movement? Even just a random selection of 3 different gaits would improve the visuals quite a bit when, for example they were all running towards the flint at 9:09, adds a little bit of personality too if say, an older Sapien was kinda stubborn and just walking instead of running like all the youngsters haha

slight variations in speed would also help, either individuals could have different speeds or sapiens further away could run faster.

0:21 I think that for this UI, we should be able to see where buildings are, if possible. Oh, and just a little thing, I think it would be great if two sapiens could have a conversation. Even if what they're saying is silly or doesn't make much sense, it'd be cool. Maybe you could even record some "existential" voice-lines in Toki Pona, with questions like "Why are we here?" and "What if this is all a dream?" It's a little silly but it'd make the sapiens feel more alive and like humans.

One thing I noticed missing, water collection. Aqueducts and boat building might be good. Also make location specific resources that you have to find around the map to reward scouting around. The only thing I see being a problem is long distance travel if you want more than one base, unless you have something like horses on the list of things to do. Also along the music side of things, build some war drums and have some massive fights with other tribes. Surprised you didn't record some random flute sounds and procedurally generate the music... :).

Really impressed with all the new stuff! I'm getting a slight sense of hype (but managing expectations), and itching to play :D One idea I got was the ability to "throw a party" where some of the sapiens will pick up instruments and the others will gather around to socialize. (got the idea from rimworld) This would be great for a mood boost if morale is down for some reason. Perhaps you could even make the musicians synch up with each other if there is an "event" like that! I think that would make a great scene, and of course it could happen spontaneously as well if you prefer that. I can imagine other events that could make use of the code as well :) Also, are you planning on forcing support structures? It looks a little goofy with the floating platforms! But it works for minecraft for example, as players prefer to build their structures in a natural looking way (unlike your playtester lol)

This is lioking really good! A few observations: The music is such a cool touch. If you are still open to mods, I can see people adding different insturments and songs to make all this happen. Building appears to be a huge part of this game now. A lot of the things here appear modern. Im not saying massive building projects did not exist in the ancient era, but those that remain look fairly different from what we saw as constructed megaprojects in the end. It would be cool to see more stone structures for late game buildings, and give people a reason to use them instead of floating wood everywhere. Factorio is a cool game to benchmark for this one. Just remember that the devil is really in the details as far as control goes. I'm not sure how that meshes with the sims-like "you can control them but they still have free will" but It will be awesome if it works. Just be very carefull, because theres plenty of ways to get it wrong. Now that im seeing how slow they swim, rafts seem like a necessity. Because all of your water is very flat, I don't think that would be too hard to add. Then you could throw in fishing too for very little extra effort. At this point you have nailed the look of the game. Good work there As other people have said, adding a few different walking animations would go a long way. Can't wait to get a chance to play this!

Will you do a content push in the last six months? I think in your last devlog you mentioned maybe hiring a modeler? I know edge cases can take a long time (maybe longer than you expect!) but I would also love to see some content-creation occur as part of the last stage. More food, animals, plants, instruments, tools. That kind of thing. In theory if your systems are mature enough, generating more variety and things to do should be a somewhat speedy process?

Hi Dave! Been great to see these devlogs, it's half what 'I pay for' generally. Development as a service, lol. That said.. as soon as it goes Early Access I'm buying Sapiens! Please take the time you need to realize your goals/vision, I think your players are a patient bunch anyway. :) Also.. I do think those pre-made complexer assets like wall pieces and stairs could look a little more low-tech. They look almost Sims-level straight and polished now. Perhaps a Dwarf Fortress approach could help there? more skill in building means a higher chance at making a 'great/artisan/expert/masterwork' building? And as that skill progresses, you could maybe give the player control over which aesthetic to build with, carried out by builders/carpenters with the required skill level. The lion's share of the work would be to model different versions of levels of craftsmanship, I guess.
@HoboInASuit4Tune3 жыл бұрын
Oh, and are material strengths and building stability something you'd ever want to get into? That bridge in the tester world was completely unsupported, hahaha. I'd probably build pillars myself to make it more realistic looking, but then again restricting possibilities might not be what you want to do with your game of course.

In the scale between where there are several households living together I think each household is mostly self-sufficient, with specialization. The stairs look WAY WAY MODERN!!! Also i think this period of the game it should realy have some SOCIAL/SPIRITUAL things such as Shaman,Elder of the tribe and the Leader of the tribe.It would be great that there are like 2 maybe 3 ways of becoming an leader of the village(there is no need to immemdietly have elected but happes naturaly over time and growth of the tribe): 1)being popular within the tribe due to social and some otehr positive skills and that way being elected by the members of the tribe 2)have a duel where periodicaly dependig on the tribe or some people within the tribe (for exaple jelous,ambitious,cunning individuals) would ocasionaly challange the curent elected leader of the tribe to a duel (duel can be eigher barehanded,battle of the ideas and then tribe gathers and listens then chose from the one depending on who is better narrator/orator and final one with a weapon wich can result in light,life thretening injury or even death). 3)Individuals achievements like being the most loved,most skilled,most contributive to the tribe has posibility to get elected as tribe leader. With the election of Elder,Shaman there can be like 2 ways 1)age 2)sorta bogus older npc telling a story around the fire how in dream spirits came to him and said this and that (there is possibility of tribe believing or not believing depending on that older npcs persuasive/orator skills) and there could also be a random chance where the elected leader of the tribe (if there is one) could lie be a make or break point where tribe is not sure they then sorta seek/look at leader of the tribes decision/judgement and if leader says yes then teh tribe will believe and if no tehn they wouldnt and the oldr npc wont get selected as Elder or Shaman of the tribe. Also it poped in my mind tat tehre can be liek mechanic(maybe sorta as a DLC if you dont pukk it of during the games development) where you cna like program it/make it so that the discontented tribe members if the happyness is way low and if there is way to much troublemakers and opposition of leaders rule and apointmenst as shamans,elders they can actualy BREAK OFF from the tribe and then THEY ALONNG THEIR FAMILY MEMBERS would LEAVE the tribe,pack their things and some food and would go away and establish their own village with their own newly selected leader. Then that way it could be sorta served as a TRIBE NUMBER MANAGMENT AND ALSO MORE IN DEPTH SYSTTEM WHERE THAT NEWLY BREAKOFF NOW NEW TRIBE CAN THEN EIGHTER STAY FRIENDLY OR GO IN BAD WAY AND BECOME A COMPETITOR FOR THE FOOD/MATERIALS AND IF NOT ADRESSED IT WILL OVERTIME TURN INTO EVEN SMALL SKIRMISHES,BATTLES,RAIDS ON EACH OTHER TRIBES EVEN THOU THEY CAME ORIGINALY FROM THE SAME TRIBE. THOSE SORT OF THINSG HAPPENED IN REAL LIFE ESPECIALY IN TRIBALISM PERIODS NAD EVEN TIL HIS DAY IT STILL IS THE SAME WAY JUST DIFFERENT METHODS AND APROACHES ARE USED. I WOULD REALY LOVED TO SEE THIS TYPE OF SYSTEM BEING IMPLEMENTED MAYBE IN THE GAME AS A BAREBONE SYSTEM TAHT WILL LATER ON AFTER RELEASE BE EXPANDED UPON IN UPDATES OR SAVE THE IDEA AND THAT SYSTEM FOR A FUTURE DLC FOR THE GAME AND BE LIKE CALLED TRIBES OR SOMETHING ELSE. I HOPE YOU READ THIS AND CONSIDER IT,MAYBE SAVE THE IDEA SOMEWHERE NA THEN IN FUTURE IMPLEMENT IT OR JUST PARTS OF IT BCS I THINK THIS WOULD ADD SO MUCH MORE LIFE TO THE GAME,MORE STUF TO DO AND LOOK AT,MANAGE/BEING ENGAGED AND ALSO ADD ALOT OF DEPTH TO TEH GAME AND ITS MECHANICS THAT WILL BE CONNECTED/PLAY WITH ONE ANOTEHR.
