We are back with another amazing exercise index video. Today we talk about the GHR. The GHR has to be one of the most underrated hamstring exercises. This is great for athletes to help prevent hamstring tears. You don't want to start with this but it should be in your workout. Watch the video and I go over all of that.

Great explanation as always! I have used a resistance band to help on the concentric. I mean a thick resistance band looped over the back of the machine and around my upper chest. I use may hands to keep it in place. Helps a lot to get the form down for a full range of motion. Still can't do them without assistance but I can definitely fell them in my HS!! Keep up the great work John!!

No one really knows about this or Nordic curls inside the lifting community, however as a sprinter, these and nordics are essential for rehab and injury prevention, as sprinters get more hamstring injuries than any other sports due to the forces we endure when our leg fires down from hip flexion. RIP to a legend who had widespread knowledge, a massive loss to the fitness industry🙏

One thing that helps is getting a slight crunch in your abs and keeping that tension throughout the entire movement. Also driving your knees down through the floor during the concentric movement.

I've never had access to a glute-ham machine, even in the gym, but I got a glute-ham strap from Spud, Inc. that goes around a weight bench to provide a place to hook your feet. The problem with it has always been the difficulty of getting your feet under the strap -- if it's too tight, you can't easily twist around to face forward, and if it's too loose, it doesn't hold you properly. Today I tried getting in position and then slipping a yoga half-moon-shaped bolster or pillow under my knees. That lifts me away from the strap, thereby tightening it enough that I really felt it in my hams. (I tried a BOSU first, to try to simulate that angled cushion you have on the GH bench, but it didn't feel right, possibly because it needs some air. I'll have to inflate it more and try again. But the bolster under my knees worked great.) Your cue to keep your hips locked and not round your back worked great. I tightened my glutes and dropped forward, and my hams really lit up.

@@mountaindog1 I think what I've been doing would be called "eccentric quasi isometrics" on the glute ham. Very slow eccentric with multiple short pauses along the ROM, then fast on the concentric. It's definitely made my hamstrings much more resilient to injury.
