MOUNTAINS OF ILLINOIS - Clive Carroll

Filmed on an old beat-up iPhone SE in, Ιερός Ναός, Nr. Triopetra, Crete
May 2023. This beautiful old 'Holy Temple' was in my sights everyday on the journey to and from the 'John Renbourn Guitar Workshop' and on the last day of the course I decided to strike for the hills with guitar, phone, & audio recording box in hand. I stayed up there for about half an hour and filmed a bunch of tunes that I thought worked well in that acoustic. 'The Mountains of Illinois' is a favourite of mine which I first heard on tour with Tommy Emmanuel many moons ago. It was written by Chet Atkins and Pat Bergeson.
The guitar here is a 2023 Ralph Bown OMX. It's only a few weeks old in this video.

Well done Clive! I must say, it's the best rendition of this wonderful song I've heard yet (no offense to Chet, Pat, TE or others). There's a delicate touch to your playing that really compliments this song. And, the Bown sounds absolutely outstanding. Had a chance to play one of Martin Simpson's Bown guitars and was very impressed. Again, exceptional playing. I sense Chet is smiling.

there are few things i find so captivating that they really motivate me to shut my mind up and pay strong attention. I had multiple moments of intense emotional release whilst listening to this rendition. I think my favorite current version of this to date though I may have to go back and listen to all the recordings by tommy and co again now.
