I get the mattress protector but why is it needed? If needed as pack up when wet, where does the bedding go?

Hi Clinton, the EDX features a normal queen-sized pillowtop mattress like you have at home. You make it like a normal bed. The protector is needed so your bedding is protected when on the off-road.
