One of my favorite places. I motorcycle up and down the road a couple times a year and fish flat water in warm weather. Thanks for doing the vid of an area I can't hike thru anymore...age catching up to me. I use a Haven Hammock for most of my camping lately and a bridge before that. Enjoyed it!!!
@mountainwanderer16 күн бұрын
hammocks are the way to go for me! I wouldn't do near the hikes I do if I had to sleep on the ground (though that tech has come along ways)

Glad to see you made it in Travis! Rumor has it there is a small herd of Buffalo in that area. 😉 Bottom up would have been the preferred route for me, non the less, top down has the most picturesque rugged beauty nature has to offer bar none in the Great Burn.

Good way to close out the season! That ridge in the snow looked sketchy. I closed out the season in the pioneer mountains south of Butte. Saw a bear with a cub and moose at the lake I was at. Always hard knowing that will be the last one before a long winter sets in. If you're ever up for a trip in Montana, hit me up.

Beautiful ending to the season. Found myself wishing I could’ve gotten out at least one more time, but then realized, this was only one week after my last backpacking trip. Time just goes by so fast and with La Niña, we should all be thankful for anything we got out to do this fall. Perhaps one more low elevation hike before the end of the year - if the weather allows it. At any rate, thanks for taking us along again. Any plans on putting on the snowshoes?
@mountainwanderer21 күн бұрын
I was having the same doubts if maybe I stopped too soon. I might've been able to squeeze one more trip in, but when I called it for the year, it just kind of felt right. It's been a weird year for me and I didn't question my gut when it told me that we were done for the year. We will definitely be sporting snowshoes soon! I like to give some time for the hunters to get out there and shoot their guns, but we'll be getting back at it this winter!

Again- way to get after it Travs. Good to see both of you feeling good on this one. I asked before- but what pack are you rolling with? Also- is it warm in a hammock, being up off the ground, when its cold out.? Maybe sometime you could show how that whole set up works. Curious. Have a good off season. Look forward to your vids.
@mountainwanderer21 күн бұрын
I switch packs depending on what kind of trip I am doing. For this one I used my ULA Circuit. I just got this pack last summer and this was only my 2nd time out with it. As far as hammocks in the cold, I feel like they are warmer than sleeping on the ground. Of course it is all about your insulation and in a hammock in the cold, the underquilt is the key. I always use my 0º underquilt even in the summer, but in the winter I use a 0º top quilt where as in the summer I roll with my 20º top quilt.
