If you can afford a clamp set buy it! Make sure to measure your mills T-slot grooves first. Good luck.

Lms sells them. I bought this about 9 months ago and it is a piece of crap. At first i liked it. But after using it there are certain sizes that it will not clamp tight on. Tonight was the finale straw. Needed to mill a part and because of the size it would not clamp down tight enough too hold the piece between the jaws. Lucky I had a spare HF 19 dollar one. So I’m looking at a different type now. But good luck to you hope yours works better. 🤪🤪🤪

At 4:34 it should be stated as five tenths, not five tenths of an inch. Five tenths is taken as 5/10000 while five tenths of an inch is half an inch.

I ordered this from LMS as part of a starter kit. I'm just starting in milling, but this vise is a pain to use. I don't see why anyone would prefer this to a standard milling vise. It is well ground, but the mounting clamps seem cheap, and the Allen adjustment infuriate me to no end. Maybe someone can school me before I either sell or scrap it. Until that day, it goes in the junk bin. If you're starting out, avoid this vise.

Kenny, hard to know exactly how to diagnose and not sure how or what you were using for, but in general a screwless vice and a mill vice are very different creatures. Like most tools if it was not working as expected, it may not have been the right tool for the job. We have a Vice Comparison chart which may be helpful: littlemachineshop.com/info/vise_compare.php. I wouldn't "trash" it, give it to someone else at least, or wait for the right project. You can never have too many tools.

@@Littlemachineshop It is indeed square, parallel, and feels like its a precise vise. I also like the vees for holding cylinders, and the movable jaw doesn't seem to lift upon tightening (in any way I can tell). There are two reasons which I suspect are why you have it listed as "not as convenient as adjusting a normal vise screw" on your comparison list. Firstly, it's easy to over-loosen the screw. Shame on me, sure, but it is frustrating when the cap screw comes completely out all the same. Mostly, what's infuriating to me, is when the vice seemingly sticks at certain distances. As if tightening the cap screw catches between grooves, resulting in the vice not tightening down. For instance, this seems to happen when the movable jaw is ~1" from the fixed jaw when clamping in 1" square bar stock. It seems like I'm battling this vise at times to get it to hold a workpiece. I appreciate your reply, but I think a milling vise would be better for novices all the same. I'm still going to be shopping LMS.

Conventional milling vice is far superior

That's a grinding vise. It holds down magnetically.Get yourself a machinist vise.

I've noticed these types of vices become more popular in milling machines. There are versions designed to be held down without a magnetic chuck. Looking at 120mm version myself.

Its actually a toolmakers vice used in multiple machine set ups for accurate work.
