Insta360 X4 vs Ace Pro: ONE is great!

I bought the X4 not expecting much, just give it a try. I LOVE being able to just record and it’ll capture everything. I’m someone who sucks at planning ahead which shots I want so to be able to pick and choose later has been so stinkin’ helpful. But I’m someone who enjoys rewatching footage and picking what I want to use. The downside of X4…. The image quality is great - not amazing - but great. It’s *terrible* in low light. Even videoing in a car with a cloudless sky in the afternoon I get grainy footage inside the car (even using 8k down sampling to 4k in post). But if you have a bright sunny day the image quality is freaking amazing. I ordered the AcePro (which should be delivered soon) to try it in low light. We shall see…

@@graindropz I’ve ended up favoring the AcePro more. If going somewhere I’ll grab the AcePro over the X4 due to better low light quality.

@@SDizzzle : The minimum distance from the camera to the subject...? If I need to get a closer shot of a product, will Ace pro do the work..?

Yes it has a feature that allows a single tap to zoom in and not lose any 4k quality 👌

They are both really good at what they do. I decided on the X4. and as soon as I played around with it the first time I was happy I did. but then I was still thinking about the Ace Pro and how I can use them in different ways. and also at the same time if I want. and a few days later I went out and got the Ace Pro. they are both huge upgrades over my last action camera which was a Go Pro Hero 3. I liked the Pocket 3 but what held me back on it is I don't like that the battery is built in. because batteries eventually stop working as good or completely stop working. and then you can throw it in the trash.

I’ve watched sooo many comparison vids yet still can’t decide 🙈 Had gopro 4 and since I’m quite attached with my iphone pro as for practical reason, i kept on postponing to upgrade the action cam. I even abandon my sony cam. So as much I would love to buy both of them I have to choose 1 instead otherwise it just ended in drawer 😭 Which one handle better in hot weather as I live in UAE?

X4 💯 it gives a more 3rd person view of things, on the other hand 'the ace pro pointing forward on the handlebars will be a much better image, remember to get a separate USB mic and a Bluetooth mic for your helmet.

The “invisible” selfie stick is nearly always visible via shadows etc. They are cool shots but invisible is a stretch.

I guess having the technology to automatically erase a physical object isn’t good enough, huh? Now people expect for technology to automatically be able to compute and erase shadows that the AI definitively knows which shadows to erase 😂

I notice that the x4 has a lot of noise and blurry in some images compared to the ace pro, are you saying that this is something that the x4 can improve with firmware updates? or does it not depend on the software? because really some shots ace pro has clearer and cleaner images than the x4, and it's strange being an older cam..

Hi - you mean in this video? Most of the shots of the X4 are perfectly sharp - the KZbin compression can have a really negative impact on the image quality

@@MountMediaChannel yes in this video leave the youtube compression alone, I notice that in the x4 compared to the ace pro the images seem blurry and with noise, like I was looking at your face and on the ace pro your face was clear while on the x4 it was blurry and disturbed, and I strange given that in theory the x4 should have a superior lens to the ace pro, even when you shot mountains or grass I noticed the same differences, does this really seem to be the cause of the absence of hdr in 8k?

I'm sure it's the 2 lenses are 4k so when rendered I'd assume it's probably 5.7k if the calculations right

No reviewer is talking about lense fogging on X4 like it was on x3why not do ace pro 8k and compare to x4 8k

Hi - I haven't had any problems with lens fogging on the X4 - I rarely use 8K on the Ace Pro, the image quality is only marginally better and I shoot all video at 30fps. 8K is only available in 24fps.

Hi - the X4 gives you new perspectives and is actually a completely different kind of camera - if you like to try something new and creative, the X4 is certainly a cool choice.

do you experience the focus issue that happens with footage from the Ace Pro? has that been fixed by Insta360? you seem very sharp at arm's length in your footage but there are a number of creators who say that the minimum focal length of the Ace Pro is too long to keep the creator in focus when shooting at arm's length.

If your arm is outstretched, you are absolutely in focus; if your arm is strongly bent, you may not be. For me, that's absolutely fine for an action camera - I don't want to take close-ups with the wide-angle lens. You can't fix this "problem" with an update, because it has to do with the size of the sensor. The larger the sensor, the shallower the depth of field. It's exactly the same with the Action4 because the sensor is the same size.

i wish you could comment on software flaws by insta360, as their support is stating, its not possible to have gps stats in media tab, however you can have it in edit tab (which is the old way) so basically the update on insta360 software for pc is only good for plain shots without gps data... basically your gps device and data is stuck in time and software as before...try it yourself... turn on gps data in your video, then try to edit it in media tab... the gps data is non existent in media tab...media tab is nice shortcut ...but not for gps users

@@Se7enthG nope my friend, no GPS in project tab. GPS enabled in video in media tab, that file transferred to project tab, but GPS does not show up, also doesnt show up on exported file. insta360 program project tab is good for nothing if you are using GPS stats. edit all in media tab and cut it stick it together in some other program, davinci etc. nothing has changed.

@turokrem79 this is strange, me and my partner made some shots / vids yesterday, I was editing them and just for fun I put a few different ones on the media, I was using android app not desktop, if you've updated your system software and the 360 tab, I'd try uninstall / reinstall incase of a code glitch, it's free now on the mobile app so maybe they didn't update the tab properly, it wouldn't surprise me as I find the software extremely irritating, others out there I could do the same in a third of the time, and all thus gambling for gold and diamonds! Obviously to get people to use the forums, it reminds me of a kids console game, hope you have some luck..

You mean Dewarp for less distortions? Yes - but ultra wide is the standard field of view

You're very pinched in on the X4 shots. Gives it that fishbowl effect. Makes the quality look better if you pinch out to make it look flat the Ace pro will be the clear winner on quality.

The x4 with 8k and a result of 2,7 is a big different between the image quality of the ace pro. Keep that in mind. 😉

If you want to publish to YT or similar not only social media or if you like great quality of recording go with Ace. The X4 is just very very often bad after reframing. You have to do a lot things right to look good. It is great device, app, reframing is fun, but most of the shots are not great quality. I was so excited and buy X4 and was quite disappointed. On phone screen it is not so visible, but on 4K TV it is still bad.

But to reframe it later is the best part and record 360. As a biker I find it useful. Wished they increased the sensor size

How do they compare when using the X4’s forward facing camera? Is the quality of that video close (or at least closer) to the Ace Pro? I’d love to get the x4, but the video quality just doesn’t seem that good.

@@MaddenScience I did not try with X4 much yet. But from experience with X3, it was quite close to regular action camera and has advantage of quite big FOV. So, yes, it is possible way. But if you use it like it for 90 % of time, then more weight, much bigger and more prone to dirt or damage are things to consider against Ace Pro or DJI Action 4.

If you are only buying one of these cameras, then it must be the X4. There's nothing like 360° video. You can also shoot flat videos with good quality.

Not quite true: the Ace Pro (and I have one) has an amazing image quality with vibrant colors and lots of detail, not to mention you don’t need to frame anything. Besides, on low light it’s great. The X4 on the other hand, gives you freedom to frame but…at cost of detail, more work (you have to frame) and on low light it’s much worse than the Ace Pro. Besides the Ace Pro’s screen allows you to do a lot. So, two different devices for different proposes, even if for some both are great. For me image quality is the most important thing, so the X4 is not an option. The X4 is good if you want to play with the framing (which I don’t)

@@ricarmig I have both cameras. And I've been shooting Insta360 for 8 years. You obviously can't do 360 with the Ace Pro, but you can do straight line video with the X4. If you're only going to have one of the two, get the X4 and have the 360 experience. It's amazing.

@@roninr8199 the Ace Pro has absolutely no focus issues, just the minimum near distance is about 45 cm and you can’t have it stuck at your nose. When the hype came I checked my videos and all of them were fine and excellent focus, why? I always hold my Ace Pro (and all my cameras, including my iPhone when using it for vlogging) with a mini selfie stick and that keeps the camera at a normal distance (>45cm) from my face. The (non)issue came when someone was holding the camera with their bare hands like holding a phone and found out that it wasn’t perfect. So yes, the Ace Pro is fantastic and unless you do vlogging with the camera on bare your hands and stuck to your nose (

I would say that the X4 is the camera to buy if you want a consumer 360 camera. It would be hard to argue that another model in this category is the best. If you want a normal action camera, the choice is harder - yes, the Ace Pro is very good but not the undisputed leader in the category. So that is the first consideration - 360 camera, or not?

Great video !! How did the skier hold the stick of the X4 camera , since he was already holding the ski sticks ? Does the X4 image quality get any better if you shoot with only one lense and do not do framing ?

Just bought the X4 to complement my DJI Action 3 and the benefit is I can fire and forget and not endless stoop start to reframe. I ride bike adventures and the faff burns time when the action 3 is in one view only. I will soon see as off to ride Europe in a week.
